First time watching Denver this year. Jokic looks really overweight.

I believe the preferred term is “absolute unit”.
Idk man. He spent his whole summer playing FIBA, there is no reason he should’ve gained weight like that. I hate to say it but he is in year 1 of a brand new max extension which raises some questions about his motivations.
Anyway I’ve been team KAT for their whole careers.

I think for a veteran who is sued to a certain team’s style/culture it can be really difficult to adjust. Conley is 32 and has s-ent his entire basketball life playing with Gasol. Jazz are just a way different team with different personnel.
Paul Millsap looked like one of the worst players in the NBA for a huge chunk of last year. It’s just hard for these 10+ year veteran guys. I’m not worried about Mike.

Re: 2019-20 NBA Season Discussion
Yeah I watched the game last night and that did not look like the Jokic of the past 2 seasons at all. Which is really bad for Denver because after him they're a collection of good-not-great players who compliment him perfectly.
Honestly, if not for the monstars robbing Luka of his powers at half-time (literally worst half I've seen play so far in the nba, at least on offense) and I'm not sure that game would've been close.
Now that my concerns about Porzingis basketball abilities are past me, I wouldn't be surprised if we got the Mavs fighting for home-court throughout the season. They're so deep. I was fully on Brunson hive since last year but Wright has got me impressed - he's a perfect fit on this team.

Seems like a minority position, based on the couple of responses I got when I posed that comparison earlier ITT.

A lot of people here tend to value different things than I do.
Team KAT had some dark days when Jokic was in MVP talks and Towns was getting frozen out by two ball-dominant wings. The skills were there though, and the impact really wasn’t far off Jokic. I think his style of play is generally more reliable and sustainable. I think you can build a team that would really excel and have a high ceiling around Jokic (and the Nuggets have largely) but as an every-down offensive option I prefer Towns. I just think with any decent guard a pick and roll with Towns is a stunningly efficient play- much like how Dirk was in his prime. The Nuggets, for as good as their offense looks sometimes, has a ton of possessions that just go nowhere because Jokic isn’t really aggressive with his own shot unless he has a size mismatch or in-missable opportunity.
I think people generally don’t watch a ton of towns for understandable reasons but he’s now seeing a ton of hard doubles around the basket and a ton of defensive attention in general and his passing has been improved quite a bit to take advantage, especially finding cutters which is one reason Wiggins has been scoring so efficiently lately. Charlotte was hard doubling him on every single post touch.
I don’t know yet how real I think his defensive improvement is but at this point I think it’s really clear Towns is the best offensive big in the league and could find himself in contention for best offensive player, period.

Bidofo wrote:I know, LOLKnicks and whatever...but we’ve quietly been competitive in all our games except the Celtics game which really blew open in the fourth. And RJ looks like a legit stud, ngl I was a little worried before the season, but he’s shattered all my expectations. Guy is a beast and the future, easily front runner for ROTY imo. Kinda shocked he’s not getting more coverage despite playing in NY, Zion would have definitely gotten all the coverage for lesser games, but it is what it is. Last time I was this excited during the season was probably 2013
Legitimately one of the best PLAYERS in the league so far (I know sample size and all but he's been a top 15ish guy so far). He's killing it out there on both ends. If he could hit his FTs this would be one of the best openings to a career ever.
Overall I still have my concerns with his jumper but his shot selection is night and day compared to at Duke and so is his defensive effort. I long said I thought he could be a superstar with a brain transplant but that he'd be similar to a JR Smith because of his terrible IQ on the court. Nice to see his #1 concern, while still being something that might pop up, is something he can definitely improve and possibly might have improved.
He's also got too much strength for a 200 pound player. Bring that strong but light should help him stay healthy similar to Westbrook who looked 200+ at 185 lbs at the combine.

These Raps are reminding me of the 94 Bulls. Think theyre gonna give the Sixers or Bucks hell in the semis even tho theyll most likely lose

I knew Houston's offense would be historically great as soon as they traded for Westbrook, but what they've shown so far makes me believe they have a great chance to end as the best regular season offense ever. Their offense is unstoppable and they have both one of the best half court offensive anchors in Harden and one of the GOAT transition players in Westbrook...

Westbrook/Harden is too much bad defense/mistakes to cover for the frontcourt

Re: 2019-20 NBA Season Discussion
Coming into tonight D'angelo Russell had the Warriors being outscored by 24 points per 100 possessions with him on the court.
he's rocking a -29 after 12 minutes. Likely in the ballpark of -100 or so per 100.
What a disastrous start.

Yes, it's a tradeoff. Westbrook and Harden are two of the best offensive player ever (at least in the RS) but if that's your frontcourt it's going to be tough to have a good defense. I think they could potentially be average defensively come playoff time though

Doubt it. They had Melo/Chriss/Mcw at one point last season and didnt look this bad defensively.

House is also pretty weak defensively. He has a reputation as a stopper For some reason but he can’t guard any serious scorers. 1 good possession followed by 3 where he just looks lost. I guess his size helps a little bit with rebounding but he’s still tiny for a 3 and frankly Gordon is just way better.

It was always about gaining an asset than being enamoured by the player. Myers will extract a small fortune out of someone as soon as D'Angelo becomes trade eligible. Warriors needed those assets after depleting them during the title run and that was the only way of getting them.
