Never know. He could become very dependable from 3. This kid has tons of promise
Nah, he's too wildly inconsistent to ever have "dependable" attached to his shooting.
36%, 71%
40%, 84%
36%, 71%
30%, 85%
Those were his three point and free throw percentages throughout his Washington career. You never knew what you were going to get.
I agree that he'll probably never be Danny Green but the samples on his college free throws are incredibly small, between 40 and 60 FTs a year. Four more makes his junior year, for example, and he's near 80% instead of 70%. Something that small is always going to be fluke-y.
Regarding 3s, he shot more of them but even those samples are probably too small to be super conclusive. E.g. if he made 0.2 more shots per game last year he would've been at a much more respectable 35-36%.
I don't think he's a great/pure shooter but some extremely good 3/D guys weren't that either, so I think there's hope that he can improve quite a bit just by drilling a quick trigger corner and elbow shot over and over again. (Right now he's also taking harder shots than he needs to instead of just the open catch-shoot ones.)
