You know there is no salary cap in baseball, right?

Like I said I don't want to be the Yankees. I like being the underdog in our division. That's part of the fun of being a red sox fan. No one likes the evil empire.

I like having the best team.

I would like not having to worry about the offense every night.

Most of all...I would like to win multiple championships.

Screw the underdog, I would like to be the favorite.

Newsflash: we spend more than 28 other teams in baseball. We are not an underdog.

just wanted to point out that the awards are political as well. just posting and re-posting that he won an MVP isnt much of an argument and is as empty as arods heart

ARod's 2005 Rankings:

AVG: 2
OBP: 2
SLG: 1
OPS: 1
R: 1
BB: 3
HR: 1
H: 6
RBI: 4

Sundries

EqA: .353
WARP3: 13.0

So, uh, no. He deserved it. You have no basis for an argument...other than using esoteric and unquantifiable intangibles.

Also, love the comment about MVP awards being political when ARod is probably the most castigated person in the media outside of Barry Bonds.

i didnt say he didnt deserve it, id appreciate not having words put in my mouth. im just stating that you werent really making your argument by saying "he won an mvp." i could say that ken griffey junior was and would have continued to be a better player if it wasnt for his injuries, but if you questioned that and all i did was make the same statement again i wouldnt be making my point or a legit argument/discussion. nash and dirk have won mvps the last few years in the nba and havent necessarily been as impressive as other players.

and dont try and tell me the MLB doesnt love arod and would never pull/pressure for him to win an award over other players who they may not have as high in their good graces.

and the media loves to criticize him personally, but ive never really seen/heard/read any media member question his talent/abilities. dont compare arod to bonds like that, they arent the same type of "star"

Don't you think that if the MLB pressured writers into voting for certain guys, ARod would have a lot more than 2 MVP awards? Think of all the great seasons he had in Seattle and Texas, his rookie season of .358/36 homers/123 RBI, 54 doubles, 15 steals and 141 runs scored. Then there was his 42 HR and 46 SB season where he hit .310 and drove in 124 runs. In Texas he hit 52 home runs and drove in 135 runs with a .318 average. The next year he hit 57 home runs and drove in 142 runs with a .300 average.

Don't you think that, if your theory was correct, ARod would have won an MVP award in just ONE of those seasons?

Yeah I know but we are in our division, moneywise.
We are going to have to agree to disagree on this topic though, because I don't think what either of us are saying is unreasonable. We both are red sox fans and want to win, but we just have different opinions on how we're going to win.
Arod is a great player and is going to produce every year, but the argument basically comes down to whether as a fan you want the label of having arod not only on your team as the highest paid player in baseball, but also the face of your team. I say no because I don't think any player is worth 30 million a year. Yankee fans never embraced him as the face of their team at 25 million a year and I don't think Red Sox fans would ever embrace him at 30 million a year. He has never been good with fans and you better be good with them if you're going to be the highest paid player in baseball. I also think Mike Lowell has done a great job and deserves to be brought back.
Your argument is that you want to win and bringing in arod is obviously going to help the red sox do it. You don't care how much he cost's you think he's worth it. I can both understand and respect that.

today seems like one of those games that A-rod will hit a HR in the 7th or 8th inning to break the (currently) 14-0 shutout at the hands of the Tigers.

Because the Sox spend more than the BJays, DRays and O's. Then by what you're saying is theyre still the favorites to win the Wild Card and make the ALCS every year.

we are underdogs to the yankees in the division. the bjays, drays, and o's are underdogs to the red sox. You knew what I meant anyway.
