For the benefit of Dallas fans, let me describe what KP "was" for the Knicks, his typical season arc. The first month to six weeks of the year, he's going to look incredible -- like a legit MVP candidate. You get giddy thinking about the possibilities. Then, over the next month to six weeks, his field goal % drops as there's some kind of nagging malady (for the previous two seasons it was the elbow). For the rest of the year, you hear about fatigue in addition to the nagging stress injuries and he becomes like a mid-30s/low 40s field-goal % guy -- and he also misses more games. Can he break this template? Maybe, but I wouldn't want to bet 5 years, 150-million+ without seeing more.

He was basically playing alone there, but in Dallas, he'll have a great coach and a much better supporting cast around him. And free agency hasn't even started yet. I'm hopeful that he can perform great over the full year.

I definitely agree that he'll have a better chance to develop in Dallas than in NY. Still, him getting the magnitude of a 5/153 deal at this stage seems pretty crazy to me.

the stamina issues had nothing to do with carrying the load.
But regardless, the max is a given. Just understand that there will probably be some bumps in the road next season and load management him properly and you might be alright.

Agreed. I've seen him get gassed a little easily, and he'll miss games for sure. Whether it is due to injury or load management.

The only risk I may see, is that KP may come back and only ever be 90% the player he used to be... which is still a max player imo.
KP shoots well (even with left hand). Shots are on target in practice. KP also seems to run pretty well in practice. I wonder if NYK faking an injury on Zinger just to lower the asking price off the RFA status. I don't think there's big issues in health. The situation is pretty much like Emiid. I think it's only because the young team plans to tank.

Kristaps Porziņģis activated
I thought Porzingis looked so much better defending the center and having the ability to dominate defensively in the paint. When he was played PF and guarding Hachimura, who is basically a 6'7 glorified SF, he struggled somewhat on defense. Which makes sense, he's 7'3. I don't think guys like Embiid and Gobert would have much success guarding athletic SF/PFs either. Carslie is smart, I don't think he'll fall into the trap like NY coaches did

I think Zinger is fine. But KP does have trouble defending outside the paint, as expected. The Mavs struggle defensively, rebounding-wise and shot-blocking wise.

So far, Zinger is outstanding blocking shots for the Mavs. Name the last franchise player who blocks shot at this rate. Mourning?

Does Shawn Bradley count as a franchise player?

Well it nice to have a guy who are both good in defence and offence, in porzingis case when his shoot not falling he can still impacts the game from the defensive end.
What

because Porzingis' game is inherently not very efficient.
and probably never will, warrant taking the ball out of Doncic's hands who can create efficient offense much more easily and reliably.
Don't sell KP short.
One has to assume that he has ample time to perfect his game and become "more efficient". Dirk in particular needs to get in his ear and work with him so he gets better with his post/midrange game. He is way too impatient and way too eagger to take people off the dribble and doing all kinds of crazy things that he shouldn't need to with his height.
KP does so many things that scream "smart", "intuitive"... that it's hard to believe that he will not improve to the point of becoming a real weapon on offense.
Many also notice how at times Luka looks gassed and in particular last year he had a really horrid time the second half of the year with no one around. To have him carry all the load seems like a risky proposition.
By the way, I really loved a passage of play where he and Brunson were running pnr and where KP's "gravity" were on display.
