Sabonis on the block
https://theathletic.com/1305800/2019/10/18/sources-pacers-big-man-domantas-sabonis-might-be-on-the-move/

We don't have the ammunition seemingly, but I'm very curious as to what the price tag is on him.

And Sindarius was dumped by the Cavs, one of the worst teams in the league. I remember taking abuse last season from a couple of the denizens hereabouts when I said we were playing a couple of guys who would be out of the league soon. You know who you are.

Hey, I hope they hook on somewhere but the future is not bright unless and until they learn to shoot, and it's getting a little late. Teams would rather take a chance on some kid with measurables than on 25-year-old tweeners.

Hawks claimed Ty Wallace... good for him, could be a fun team and town for him to play with/at if he can stick.

Pretty much like the contract the Clips just gave Walton, Jr.

Sword of Damocles

Wallace is on a non-guaranteed minimum-salary contract that will become partially guaranteed for $300K in September, then fully guaranteed in January

i wonder if we trade mcgrunder & robinson for anyone, they combine for 8.3m

roster seems too deep to get meaningful minutes out of those 2

Who makes up our "core"? Who are the untradables?

Are Lou and Montrezl a package deal, either way/no matter what?

What caliber of Center/PF can we upgrade to with a Zubac+Harkless trade? (name the players)

Any interest in bringing back DeAndre? He has 4 years left on his new Nets contract at $10M per. He's not even starting.

4 years is a lot, but he's still only 31. The Nets might be willing to dump him for Harkless's expiring contract.

Absolutely not. DJ stopped giving a damn about winning basketball around 3 seasons ago, now that he got some decent money it's pretty much game over. Really horrible contract, best of luck to the Nets trying to get rid of it.

Moe is actually useful and is going to be playing hard for his last big pay day.

Tobais Harris is not a good value at his contract.
2020 - $31,034,483
2021 - $33,517,241
2022 - $36,000,000
2023 - $38,482,759
2024 - $40,965,517

Montrezl would not a good value if he's a "max player"... I think we should be looking for a trade.

Montrezl for Sabonis... what else would be involved?

Sabonis' contract (good/decent value)
2020 - $3,529,555
2021 - $17,187,500
2022 - $18,562,500
2023 - $19,937,500
2024 - $21,312,500

I think Trezz will give us a hometown discount, in fact I think a HUGE hometown discount. Something CP, BG, or DJ would never do for the team or even for each other.

I liked Dynamix's veto of DJ above. I thought DJ was almost always overpaid, and never once underpaid. I resented paying $20M+ for a guy who never once put the team on his back and won us a game. Trezz does something to help us win almost every night.

With the great equalizer of the NBA salary cap, anytime you can get a difference-maker for below market, I think you accept the discount, accept the limitations of a unicorn like Trezz, and then you build around and you coach around their strengths and weaknesses.

Although he's a nice player, I don't think Sabonis is a difference-maker. I don't think DJ was. I think Trezz is. He already is.

Lou Will is both what could convince Montrezl to stay, at a discount... or convince him to leave for the the big money.

Lou has arguably been under-paid over the entirety of his career... but/and has chosen to roll with it, to look at things as they are and make the most of it (taking pride in the "Underground GOAT"/6th Man stuff). On the other hand, Lou could also be the cautionary tale for someone like Montrezl... make your money when you can.

(the third scenario being, the Clips pay Montrezl the big money and he stays... which I choose to dismiss for these purposes and intents)
