What'ya Think of Dre Greenlaw?
I've got to admit I don't have as much time to watch CFB as I used to. Didn't notice Greenlaw in college.
I haven't really noticed him all that much. What do you think of him? Solid, long-term starter? The beneficiary of a great DL who's lucky to be on the Niners? Star potential?
I dunno.

Re: What'ya Think of Dre Greenlaw?
I honestly did not notice him one time today which I guess could be a good thing?
He is a rookie benefiting from playing with some great players around him but I think that will benefit him in the long run and could be a solid defensive player for awhile.

I haven't notice greenlaw since the cincy game. Just looked at his stats, over the last 4 games he's had 2 tackle assists and that's it.

July 29th - Saleh on 49ers base defense and nickel:
“We tried to marry base (defense) to nickel more. …We feel like we’ve been able to marry the two together so there isn’t as much of a tendency. So to the players we might look more interchangeable, but we’re actually no different than what we do in nickel.”
and......
“If you really go look at our season last year, we played 200-300 snaps of base defense. And in those snaps, I think we had like 50 snaps with the offense in two-(running) back all year. We did not see a lot of two-back. Everything is “11” personnel (three wide receivers) looks, spreading you out. They’re just not letting us get into those formations anymore. If you eliminated third downs and you eliminated two-minute drives and it’s just first and second downs and you looked at how many times a tight end was in a three-point stance on the line of scrimmage, it’s not very much. If you went to the Seattle Seahawks ’13 year, against 11 personnel it would look exactly the same as what we’re doing.”
So yes, you're not going to see Dre Greenlaw as much as you are their 5th and 6th DBs. Like a lot of teams.

That's why I was hoping the SLB on this team would be more of a really small, fast DE who can get after the QB & cover extremely well. I'm not saying Greenlaw can't do those things, but he actually seems like a pretty standard, 90's-style SLB IMO. Good so far, though.

Re: What'ya Think of Dre Greenlaw?
I want Dylan Moses next year. I want him badly...! There’s only a handful of players I’d draft ahead of him at the end of the first round come next spring.
To answer your question, Sick, I don’t trust Kwon being able to stay healthy for any 16 game seasons. Even though Greenlaw played much better than I expected during training camp (he was shining), I think he might’ve had luck on his side. Fluke performances for lack of better words. One thing for sure, he’s a vicious hitter. I was surprised by that. Anyway, I’m not totally convinced that he’s an NFL caliber starter, let alone a game wrecker at that position. I think Moses has the athleticism / capability to be a game changer for us at that position.

It'd be pretty sweet to have him, but it'd also be pretty sad to spend a really high pick on a guy who probably wouldn't get more than 30% of the snaps.
But your point about Kwon's health is valid. It'd be nice to have a great LB to be able to move in to the Mike position if need be. I haven't had as much time to watch CFB the last couple of years, so I'm gonna have to take your word for it on Moses.

Re: What'ya Think of Dre Greenlaw?
I haven't noticed much of Greenlaw - good or bad - in games this year. Maybe that is OK since that means he isn't showing up on really bad plays!
For what it's worth, his PFF grade in 2019 is 60.8, so not too much of a drop-off from Alexander's 61.3. On the positive side, Greenlaw was timed at 21.23 mph in a game this year - that would make him our fastest linebacker. Could be a valuable asset when chasing Russell Wilson (and Lamar Jackson later this season).

Re: What'ya Think of Dre Greenlaw?
As bad as as he might’ve played earlier this year with the Skins, we should really consider bringing in a vet like Zach Brown. He doesn’t havei Kwon’ s swag but he brings a bit of that Richard Sherman type leader that the LB unit is lacking right now. Not to be a starter though. Greenlaw has to step up his game and produce for us. Based on his play during the preseason, I have faith in him.

Cardinals signed LB Zach Brown.
Brown started all six games for the Eagles after signing with the team in May following his release from the Redskins. The 31-year-old LB provides veteran depth to the Cardinals' front-seven.

I think that was a tactical move by them. Being full aware of our situation they are being spiteful.

Moses is my man, but he doesn't have the best stats when it comes to coverage on passing downs. Dude flat out has speed, and attacks the ball carrier a la Reuben Foster, but with a more refined technique. If the Niners look at him long term, Warner would primarily be the guy in coverage. I agree that Kwon is injury riddled, and that I'm not sure how much his body can take playing the way he does. Problem is I highly doubt Moses will be there late in the first round where the Niners will be picking, making it more reasonable for the Niners to trade down and accumulate picks and building other spots such as an interior OL and perhaps a replacement for Ahkello.
