AirCanadaMouse wrote:On behalf of Raptor fans, I would like to apologize for a thread as stupid as this. Please realize that some people in this fan base seriously overrate this guy. Saying he's better than Bosh, and soon to be Carter. This isn't the first time someone compared Pascal to Giannis, and no Pascal's jumper is not "wet, wet, wet"... he can only hit a corner 3 and can't shoot a 3 off the dribble.

As you can see, we have some utterly clueless people in our fan base. Please forgive us, we're not all as daft as this.

So the Warriors last year were defeated by a superteam composed of no less than 4 players who could lead a team on their own. Works for me.

Well, 3.

And 1 of them was just figuring it out for the first time.

If Siakam truly is a 28/9/4 guy on 63TS% he is a top 5 player. That is kinda not even debatable.

Now, is he a 28/9/4 guy? Probably not. But IF (if!!!) he actually is, he’s easily an MVP candidate.

I mean AD’s peak so far has been 28/11/2, Giannis is 27/13/6, so it isn’t like 28/9/4 is not up there. Kawhi is arguably (and is IMO) the best player in the NBA and his #’s last year were 27/7/3

But realistically, he tapers off. I’d be ecstatic with a 24/8/4 type year with a 3rd all nab appearance

Mans hating ? It doesn't even matter if they slightly decline. The championship has already been won in Toronto, CANADA. I don't even need to watch basketball anymore. We have experienced the best that can happen. We already know about non contending basketball from the early 2000's but in the last 5 -6 years we got the best record besides GS.

So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

When I look at a player I look at skillset, athletic ablilty, mental strength and production (at college level, in given role etc.)

He's highly skilled, he is athletic enough, he was the #2 option on a championship team so mental strength is there and now his usage has increased. He's also 25 and can create his own shot as well as being a willing passer.

Really if Toronto has a good record and he stays consistent on both ends I don't see what can stop him from going from star to superstar.

He has a alot to prove as this is a small sample so far this season, but based on his history he's just going to get better.

Then Ingram is also a top 5 player, then?. He's making 26.8/8.4/4.8 on 62.4% TS, very similar numbers to Siakam.

Like I said in my first post here, defenses will adjust to him. They haven't yet, but they will. Defenses didn't respond to Paul George until like December or January that first year. Same with Oladipo. You really have to prove that's who you are for a while.

Look at their advanced metrics Ingram is .172 WS/48 vs Siakam's .242 WS/48. BI's BPM is 3.8 vs Siakam's BPM of 4.9.

How do you adjust for a guy like Siakam? Unless teams are just going to throw double teams at him every possession I don't see how you can stop him.

You have to be a superstar to be a top 5 player. I'll settle for his goal to be a top 15 guy in the league. Thats hard enough as it is.

There is no way he is going to be better than one of Lebron, Kawhi, AD, Harden, Giannis

I can get on board with top 15, but not top 5.

NBA coaches have an uncanny ability to find holes in your game. It's like that's what they do for a living or something.

I get it, it's hard to see struggle when everything is going good. In one of Paul George runs where he was averaging 27 PPG I didn't see how he'd end up at 21 for the season, but he did. And yes in the case of PG and Oladipo, they just threw a 2nd defender at them every time they touched the ball almost for a while.

Well IF (which people apparently can’t comprehend) Ingram is actually a 27/8/5 player you’d have to have him in the conversation.

Players don’t simply put up those numbers on 60+TS and not be top players in the league.

You probably said this exact phrase about Kawhi Harden and Giannis too.

In 2012 after Harden breaks out in HOU “ There is no way Harden is going to be better than one of Chris Paul or Kobe Bryant”

In 2016 “there is no way Giannis will be better than Lebron, Harden, Curry, KD, or AD”

Hell, before last season it was “Kawhi isn’t a top 5 player. We have one season in SA and one injury prone year”. Hell, before the playoff run I bet a LOT of people would still have him out of the top 5 due to his load management stuff.

The point is, top 5 players are never the ones who “should be”. If it worked like that, Giannis and Harden and Kawhi would never be top 5 players. People forget those 3 weren’t “supposed” to be stars.

Siakam is an inherent mismatch - there’s a reason he hasn’t been easy to neutralize offensively.
