To really earn that title he’ll need to do more — finish the year with a winning season/make the playoffs. That being said, when I watch him I feel that I’m watching a superstar — one of the best in the game right now and one of the smoothest all around games in recent memory. He’s averaging an efficient 26/9/8 thus far, and who can say that it’s not sustainable ? Dallas has looked great with him as the focal point.

He’ll get the nod from me as a superstar.

This feels like a good excuse to just drop this here though.

What was Vlade thinking?

Oh, Vlade? You mean the last guy to play in the NBA and be a chainsmoker?

I think 1-2 all star PLUS All NBA selections would put him in 'Superstar' tier.

That doesn't make him a superstar, that makes him a star. How many rings he has? ZERO!

same like Harden, Westbrook, Anthony Davis, and KD if he didn't join the Warriors.

Ok, I guess Tracy McGrady or Russell Westbrook never were superstars.

After all, they couldn't get out from the 1st round as No.1 guy.

Luka is quite a bit better than Booker already though.

Exactly my feeling as well.
And i insist but the way he is treated by opposite teams is for me the ultimate proof of it.
Someone mentionned Devin Booker but you for example rarely see this guy getting double or triple teammed as often as Doncic does.

He can ball. He can shoot from beyond the arc, he can grab boards and he dishes out some sweet dimes. He is an All-Star without a doubt this year.

Luka was already an All-Star caliber player in his rookie season.

If he’s not already, he will be by season’s end.

While it’s pretty much a given he’s an offensive superstar with an offensive MVP ceiling, his defense right now needs work and teams are looking for him in switches.

Teams are shooting 5.5% BETTER vs. Luka than against everyone else: https://stats.nba.com/player/1629029/defense-dash/

Through 5 games, the Mavs are -1.3 points per 100 possessions with Luka on court and +6.1 per 100 with him off (some of that is garbage time minutes).

So, everything is there, but he does need to defend better. If he can be a +6 offensive player and be a +1 defensive player with decent defense+excellent defensive rebounding, Mavs will be able to place a contender around him.

No. If you have a significant other that doesn't watch basketball, ask them if they know who he is.

Offensively he is. As someone said he has the best stepback in the game. Defensively the Lakers were hunting him in overtime for a reason. It will be interesting if teams do more of that targeting going forward.

In my eyes, I see him as a superstar, but opposite to what I hear from most people, I don't dare to proclaim him anything, because he is much better at his thing than me assessing superstardom.
And for the ones who believe they can assess that, I think the less they need Luka to demonstrate what he can do, or what he can achieve, the better they are.

say the mavs have a record of 35- 47 at the end of the year and 10th in the west.. is he a superstar?? really?

he's a star cause he's the best player on his team.. but superstar? nawww...

is derozan a superstar? multiple time allstar.. is lemarcus aldridge a superstar? multiple time allstar.. is blake griffin a superstar?

like i said, i think superstar should be best player on their team and their team is a title contender.. i find it interesting that doncic is a superstar but the jury is still out on siakam.. even though siakam was the 2nd option on a championship team and leads the league in 30pt games this year..

I'm not saying he's a superstar yet. I'm saying he's a lot better than Devin Booker so it's not a great comparison.

o i wasnt comparing the player.. i was just making a point of stats vs impact on winning... booker might put up superstar stats but his team doesnt win.. i m also saying doncic is not superstar yet (after 5 games).. but could he be, along with porzingus? i think that's a title contender duo one day depending on other pieces. so when that happens, doncic can b superstar... until then, he isnt..

The real question is how good is Porzingis. He's yet to score at even league-average efficiency. He's so skinny and he doesn't rebound that well. He can shoot the three and score from midrange and thats it. His height/build feels like a liability.
