If they get a high pick to pair with Green, Curry, and Thompson tho, oof.
Plus with so many injuries, this will be a good time to see what they have in Russell.

Their reign is done Lifer.
Curry injures alot, thompson had a serious injury, and green getting exposed probably will be shipped out before his value drops as he progresses alone in the season.

Rookies don't tend to contribute much on veteran teams.

Normally the top end draft talent are on bad teams where they get focused on because they're one of the 1-3 most talented players on the roster, with GS they'll be on a team where they won't be one of the top 2 or 3 talents and with that, not be focused on nearly as much. It's a really good situation for a talented rookie to be in if they don't let their ego get in the way.

That isn't an honest look. Give any contender a top 5 pick and I guarantee you that rookie would flourish. Usually great draftees are picked by bad, young teams. Not good teams with a veteran presence. Those good teams are higher up in the standings.

Not necessarily. Go back and look at the Pistons in 2003 going with project Miličić instead of C.Anthony, they felt the need to add someone they thought had possibly more upside then the best player since they had a really good roster(the guy wouldn't play many big minutes for a few years which could cause issues). GS isn't in this situation, they have starting needs and a highly drafted rookie would probably be much better than a journeyman or G-Leaguer.

Re: Around the NBA streets Vol. 3: YEERPP!
Looking around the league for someone we could trade for and I just noticed this ...
Damian Lillard
2019: $29,802,321
2020: $31,626,953
2021: $43,750,000
2022: $47,250,000
2023: $50,750,000
2024: $54,250,000
Guaranteed money: $257,429,274 / 6 years
Holy ****!
To put that in perspective, we signed Lebron + Wade for a combined ~ $217,600,000 / 6 years less than 10 years ago.
Again ... holy ****!

Does anyone know what is going on with Oladipo? Did he suffer a setback? Because I think he should have been back a couple of months ago.

Without looking up, it has to be a lowkey setback or he's just not feeling right.
Some players never recover from severe injuries. Michael Redd comes to mind in recent memory (though he had worse injuries iirc).
If Dipo is determined that he's not going to be 100% healthy, he'll eventually come back as a serviceable role player to collect his paychecks
That's my most pessimistic prediction. I hope he'll come back as good as new

Also players must be looking at Cousins situations and opting against rushing back from injuries.
Too many risks for re-injury and related injury from over-compensation. KD has already ruled himself out for the entire szn no matter what and that's the smart approach.

But that's just bad drafting. Not because the talent wasn't there. If they had drafted Melo instead of the head case in Milicic, the landscape around that team would be completely different. I shouldn't have said guarantee. But having a top 5 pick increases the chance of picking a star vs later in the round. Go back a little further and look at the Spurs and Duncan.

It was just a decision they made, instead of the best player they went for a project to not mess with their current team, Detroit won 50 games before that draft, 54 games plus won the championship right after that draft, there's no telling if an all offense/no defense high ego rookie wouldn't have fit in (on a team built on defense) and possibly caused issues where Detroit didn't win that championship. Detroit had T.Prince at SF and Sheed/Williamson at PF.
The Duncan thing? He played PF next to Robinson and SA didn't have a standout PF, not sure what the correlation was between that and Detroit's situation.

Current example; We're talking about the Warriors. Perennial playoff team. Injuries to best players that will take them out for majority of the season. Gonna net them a top draft pick this summer.
Past example; Spurs. Same thing. Finished with a bad record and then drafted Tim Duncan with their top pick.
Hypothetical example; Today's Lakers need a pg to control the offense. If they had a chance at getting rookie Trae Young or rookie Luka Doncic, that team would be vicious. My point to contract was that rookies can contribute to veteran teams. But good, veteran teams usually aren't picking in the range where rookies are usually ready to contribute out the gate (top 5 picks). That was my point.
The obvious choice, even then, was Melo. But they made the dumb decision to pick up the head case because they drafted on need instead of bpa. They're the poster child of that phrase. Melo could have come off the bench behind Tyshaun. If you're that worried, you can always trade down for assets during the draft or trade later in the season if it doesn't work. Sometimes that bites you, like Greg Oden. But that's a different discussion.
