They need to shut Simmons down for three months, get him in the GYM with a shooting coach and have him start shooting with his correct hand. He already shoots better right then left from mid-range, and is incapable of even making a layup with his right, so anyone saying that it's too late to change is talking rubbish, and would be happy to continue losing in the playoffs. If Ben doesn't like that he can stay home for the rest of the year.
They need to trade him. The reason I even follow the Sixers right now is because I am a fan of what Ben should have become by now. He's got a mental block. I do think he'll grow out of it like Kidd and Rondo, but by then he'll be a role player.
Ben is who he is. Ben is a star player in this league. Legit. But he's a horrible fit, and he's now overpaid. He's not even aggressive enough. Even if he missed free throws, he'd help by just getting the defensive player in foul trouble and his team in the bonus. I agree that his free throw shooting is more important than his 3pt shooting, but he did himself a great great great disservice by releasing those videos and coming back worse than 2 years ago. Stupid. Shoot the ball.
He has improved. I think he's more fluid in getting into his post game, I think he's a better defender. Probably better free throw shooter. I hate his lack of aggression, and lack of ability to create havoc, and tempo. Jason Kidd created havoc, was always active, great screener. Directing the offense even without the ball in his hands.
Tonight vs the Sun's, Ben got his steals, but the defense overall was a problem. He should've taken a bigger role in locking up Booker.
Further more, now that Al is here, even without Joel, he's not the best option in the post. I think Ben would have had a bigger game if Al was playing more outside the paint (which he did at a great clip), but Ben's game isn't a great fit next to Al either, when it comes to spacing is you take advantage of Al's post skills, which are better than Ben's
Ben needs to be a better rebounder too.
Ben's best fit in an offense is a quick pace with 4 shooters around him. Great pick and pop big (like Al), then playing more as a screen and roll center for a legit scorer. Even then he needs to finish better and stronger
Very unique player, at his best he'll either become a real scorer and learn to shoot (he could, but unlikely). A more aggressive version, more talented version of Draymond Green (but even he'll shoot sometimes). But, a better playmaker, hopefully one day comparable defender and rebounder. He's only going to hold this team's real star back.
I know their record will be good, they'll advance in the playoffs, and he'll play a big role in that. He's really good. But high quality teams can shrink his impact in a series. He defended Kawhi well in the semis, but overall he was a role player.
They should be happy to trade him for a Brandon Ingram, they won't get even a Siakam anymore. He's losing value every year, and he's not into his max deal yet.
