Raps 2020 Picks (Prospect Watch, Update: Vecenie Mock Released)
Folks, it occurred to me that we have our first and second round pick this year.
Barring any trades involving that pick and assuming we slightly perform our over, that pick has a good shot of landing anywhere from 21-25.
Any prospects you guys like or will be watching with our draft slot in mind?
I think we could use some play making, shooting and rebounding at 2,3,4 spot. A rim running defensive 5 would also be beneficial.
Guys in our development pool right now that I think that have a chance: Brissett, Ponds, Hernandez, Terence Davis II
Guys taken in the first round in recent years:
Bruno, Poeltl, OG, Delon, Pascal

Who ever Masai picks, we probably haven't heard of him yet.

So basically, we are looking at some combo Dewan, TD, Oshae, Ponds 2020 1st, 2020 2nd, OG, Pascal, Norm, Fred (assuming we're keeping him)
If we get a commitment from Giannis maybe that 2021 first is getting moved along with a package to get an upgrade at the start spot.
I guess what I ultimately want to say is that our two picks this year could be instrumental in how our 2021 roster looks. We're going to need hit on some depth/starter pieces if we are going forward with Pascal/Giannis.

Media says draft stinks this year but who knows with what diamonds Masai will find.
What's impressive is that with all the GM's putting high value on 2nd round picks these days, Masai has basically gone away from that and created his own trend of undrafted guys. He's the first to put an emphasis on that.

The difference in talent level between most guys drafted in the 20's to the top undrafted FAs isn't that great in most drafts. Probably the most overvalued assets right now are late 1sts rounders, early 2nd rounders. You can find similar talent at the end of the 2nd round or from the undrafted pool if you have a good scouting and development staff. Because the NBA is such a global game the talent pool is a lot bigger than it use to be. The NBA could even expand the draft to 3-4 rounds now, especially with the emergence of the g-league for developmental purposes.

Late 1sts and early 2nds are definitely over-rated which helps a guy like Masai get above the competition if he is not giving anything away and taking in an undrafted guy who might have similar talent.
The G-league has their own draft which in essence makes it 3 rounds but I do think they should expand the NBA draft to 3 rounds and along with the G-league, make it 4. It will get there imo.

N'Faly Dante could have really fluid stock, because he's missing the first 9 games at Oregon due to some admin issue.
Giannis, Gobert, Kawhi, Lowry, Pascal all came out of weak drafts.

Weak draft usually just means there’s no strong separation at this stage
Good FOs can take advantage of this and come up with steals
Like 2016 was a weak draft and we came out with Siakam and Fred.

Re: Raps 2020 Picks (Prospect Watch)
I wonder if we target a gaurd or a big man because of free agency (also our guards and bigs are mostly old)
This would be a great draft for a guard because there’s a lot of them in this class
Killian Hayes , Theo Maledon Or Tyrese Maxey would be guys I’d play close attention to.

This pick will have important implications for summer 2021. Hit a homerun and you have another contributor for cheap to surround Pascal/Giannis or an attractive trade piece to add another star.

This is exactly my thinking. Let's say 1-2 of Hernandez, Brissett, Ponds become rotation players for us plus Thomas and TD 2
All of a sudden:
Fred/Ponds
Norm/TD/second round pick
OG/1st round pick
Pascal/Bruissett
Giannis/Hernandez

Re: Raps 2020 Picks (Prospect Watch)
Masai will need to replenish the cheap depth over the next couples years. All his quality picks / undrafted FAs have either been traded (Delon, Bruno, Poeltl) or have signed big extensions (Powell, VV, Siakam). Only OG is cheap and controllable for the next couple years.
Davis and Hernandez could provide productive cheap depth, but it's too early to stay. Davis looks like a player already though.
Masai's ability to find quality players late in the draft has been key to the Raps success.

Andrew Nembhard i think he impressed in workouts. They told him things to work on. The kid might not be the most athletic but his basketball IQ is off the charts.

From my infinite wisdom of following the draft for 25 years the media doesn't know ****.
