Yeah the LaMelo #1 stuff is way too far. The jumper's broke, and he's lost on defense. But I get the excitement, he has some really outlier skills and physical tools that make his upside, in theory, extremely high.

Will need to go to the right development spot.

Unfortunately, EJ has looked completely lost through the scrimmages and two exhibitions. A step slow on defense and poor touch around the basket. It’s a small sample size and there’s still plenty of time to turn it around, of course, but my expectations have been officially tempered. He’s got the physical tools, but he looks like Skal Labisserie 2.0 right now. I don’t think I’d even pick him in the second round if the draft was today.

Immanuel Quickley has looked great though. He might be Kentucky’s best player at the moment. He needs to display better passing vision, but I think he’ll end up a late first rounder. Great shooter and defender with good size, and he looks really confident right now.

Big test against Michigan State tonight. We should learn a lot.

imo the Ball narrative is for media coverage.. College hoops hasnt started yet and the NBA season is slow so far. LaMelo is a better prospect than his brother but neither should be/have been taken lottery. His shortcomings and potential to bust due to simple lack of care in his craft .. is sky high

This class sucks tbh. I haven’t seen such little hype around a freshman class like ever

Lebron made it to the finals with that cleveland team.

Bird would have won 4 rings with that team, in this weak ass era of basketball.

I mean what's not to love about a 20 year old freshman that has a negative wingspan, doesn't have a handle, doesn't have a jumper, doesn't facilitate and isn't known for his defense.

Stud!!!!!!!!!!

In an seriousness though. Duke doesn't have a 1st round talent on the team. That's saying something with how weak this class looks.

Oh ya, even though they don't have a legit 1st round prospect, it's still Duke and I ain't going to miss a minute.

Alex has been the best Duke player so far.

could he take a Kennard type of path if he can get his playmaking together? i liked the effort on defense last year too when he got a chance to play.

I'm an Alex fan, but I don't see him having that potential. Best case scenario is a similar player like Svi from KU a few years ago. But that's best case scenario. Most likely won't sniff the NBA.

Next time people talk about how there's no way of even estimating how good a draft is a year out, this class of freshmen and the one before were both regarded as relatively weak when they were in high school. Zion propped the last draft up with his crazy freshman season, but so far in the NBA the same things that held him back from being considered the consensus top prospect in his high school class (conditioning/weight) have kept him off the court. On the bright side for this class, James "not a lottery pick because he's not a three-point shooting big" Wiseman has 20 points, 8 boards, and 2 blocks on 7-9 shooting (with 0 turnovers and 0 fouls) in the first half of his college career.
