He would've fit in so well with Frank, MItchell, Knox and RJ. That would've been an impressive starting 5 unit with tons of potential. That squad could've been the best defensive team in the league in the next year or 2.

Oh well.

KP's help defense will be partly squandered by the Mavs which is not going to be a defensive powerhouse overall unless they upgrade that side of the ball significantly.

KP's help defense would have been amazing with Mitch as the center and Frank setting the tone.

Anyhoo

Btw, I believe that KP was "on board with staying with the Knicks" when he found out THjr was being traded with him

That was glorious. He gets to play 2 more years with that chucker

We would still have issues, but we'd have a lot fewer of them. And had we then brought in a complementary player with the rest of our cap space, we could have been a playoff team. KP will always represent health risks, given his size and health history. But better him than the player who is likely to be willing to sign with us over the next 12-18 months.

With most NBA teams running 4-out offenses I'm not sure you need to have two rim protectors.

With KP and Mitch, you have have two non-passers in the line-up, and a complete lack of ballhandling. Not to mention the lack of versatility and switchability defensively.

This fantasy of pairing Mitch and KP in the frontcourt never made sense to me. It would've worked in 94 but today, not so much.

I'm talking about KP moreso than Mitch, that's right. Mitch has proven he can stay in front of some wings and even block shots on the perimeter, but having him guard 4s on the perimeter would seem like a waste of resources. Might as well play an actual 4 who can play some D but also hit shots and make passes on the other end of the court (take Morris for example) instead of unnecessarily clogging the paint with Mitch.

Well, I'm glad we don't have to ask ourselves that question anymore. What drives me nuts is Mitch isn't starting for us.

One reason I would have waited on filling cap room if I was Mavs is that they maybe want to play a faster and more slashing game with LD.

KP is not Alpha and never will be. I didn't mind trading him but maybe we should have gotten little more.

We dumped Timmy with him, lets not get greedy now. That was probably the best deal we could have gotten.

That and the draft picks. I'm just here for the draft picks now. The season starts in June and ends in November.
