Should RealGM Have Political Ads?

Post#1 » by Black Mage » Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:32 pm

Not thrilled that I come to realgm where users and topics get shut down for bringing up politics and I am barraged by an AD asking me to protest the impeachment.

If the policy is against having politics enter these forums then ads for politics should be out too.

Just my two cents. How do others feel?

I'm sure this topic will have a lot of rational and well thought out responses....

Half of the time with internet ads it's either something due to your history or else just spam. I'm sure the guys running the show aren't trying to push a political agenda on us. (I haven't got any if that helps)

I dont think they do have an agenda. But is there no way for realgm to just not accept ads from political organizations?

Seems odd that realgm avoids politics but I get an ad, not a popup version, but main page ad on a political topic.

People go on the Internet without an ad blocker? I can't believe it.

I'm not entirely internet savvy so I guess I'm not too sure.

However, I would post this on the feedback forum rather than GB and admins may be more likely to see it and help out or at least provide clarity.

RealGM is going to do what gets them $, they're going to do what's best for them.

Install ad-block and do what's best for you.

FWIW RealGM specifically provides a forum for talking about politics. Being asked to not be off-topic on the basketball forums feels like a reasonable policy, considering that platform is provided, no?

I'm curious. Take a screenshot and post it here.

Topic will eventually be moved out to the proper place:https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewforum.php?f=40

And the forum also has a specific section for all things OT (non sports talk): https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewforum.php?f=265

I go straight to forums, and I only see local ads based on my IP address, but yeah, if I saw pro Trump ad, I would be pissed

I thought ads were all based on your internet history.

Sound great. But if — and only if — the ads on the basketball forums are only basketball related as well. Political ads should be restricted to the politics forum. Seems reasonable.
Don’t make it personal, don’t take it personal.

Sellers don’t set market value. Buyers don’t set market value.
Market value only exists when two (or more) parties are in agreement.

If EVERYBODY used ad blockers, RealGM probably wouldn't be in business.

There are only a couple of places where I see a lot of ads. One is Facebook, because I pretty much sequester it in its own browser without the protections I usually use.

I actively click on conservative ads there, for at least two reasons:
-- I want to see what the enemies of our country are up to.
-- I don't mind draining their pay-per-click budgets a little. :)

I have Adblock but I don’t use in every site.

I You’re using a great platform to discuss you hobby for hours, for free, and you don’t even allow some meaningless ads?

That’s so selfish.

Don't mix politics with entertainment, it's a recipe for disaster.
