Re: Orlando's record; wins minus losses
Last year the Magic started 2-6, and finalized with a winning record. This year the offense is the issue, and I guess we all expect the jumpers to start to fall.
The defense has been very good.
I will update the image every 5 games, or so. It reflects all years after the Dwightmare season.

The glass is half full: Orlando is only 1 1/2 games out of a playoff slot.
The glass is half empty: Orlando only has one more win than the Knicks.

We weren't playing this level of defense until mid season. If we can get back to even middle of the road offense then our defense can carry us to wins much like it did last season.

Re: Orlando's record; wins minus losses
By points differential, Orlando is 8th in the East. The record thus is below scoring expectations. For example: the Hornets is 4-4, but is 2nd worst in the East. These things will even out.

Re: Orlando's record; wins minus losses
After game-10, a 3-7 record means -4.
The Magic is currently 1 1/2 games back of the 8-slot sitting at #12.
The Magic is currently (only) 1 1/2 games up on the Knicks.

In point differentials we are 19th in the league but the middle teams are all very close. We are second in points allowed and second in blocks. Last in points per game throughout the whole league. 9th in steals and rebounds. They say defense wins games...but we need some players to step up on offense.
On paper if our 2 top scorers (which are Vucevic and Fournier as of today) can put up a few more points per game we would be looking at whole different win/loss column. We desperately need someone who can average more than 20ppg. I think the only team worst off in this category than us is the Grizzlies at this point. We are last in East at 32.6PPG coming from our top two scorers. The average is 40.3 in the East. If we matched up with the average that would give us 8 more points per game. James Harden (37.1PGG) and Damian Lillard (33PPG) score more than our top two by themselves. We are 3rd from last in free throw attempts and free throws made but 9th in terms of percentage. Getting to the line would help us a lot too.

Re: Orlando's record; wins minus losses
Coach Clifford just gave a media report that "FTs matter more than the 3-ball".
Orlando could be the new wave in modern analytics if this is a true statement.

If you're given the option between a 3-pointer or a trip to the foul line for two shots, you take the FTs for sure. If your team's overall strategy is to get to the line as much as possible, I could see that being more effective than launching as many 3s as you can. But that relies on the other team to commit those fouls and the refs to call it, which is inconsistent at best.

I'm guessing he's talking about defense and point differential.
After free throws, the defense has time to set up. That limits the early clock efficiency advantage of transition play for opponents, plus defense is just better set for the half court attack.
Rebounds off of missed 3PTers are often long, so it leads to transition opportunities for the opposing team. So while shooting volume 3's helps offensive efficiency, a lot of heavy 3pt shooting teams loose it right back on the other end because they allow too many high efficiency transition baskets.

Re: Orlando's record; wins minus losses
Orlando is currently 0.5 games in to a playoff seed, a full 1 1/2 games back of the #7 seed though. And 5 games back in their division.
The Magic is 3 full games over the Knicks.

The 6-10 Magic is still currently a playoff team.

East is something else this year...
There are 6 solid playoff teams : Bucks , Heat, Celtics,76ers, Raptors, Pacers....
Than you have Nets who don't have Durant....
And after that cluster of mediocre to terrible teams
Magic 6-10
Pistons 6-11
Hornets 6-12
Wizards 5-10
Cavs 5-12
Hawks 4-12
Knicks 4-13
just a notion that Knicks with 4-13 record are only 2 wins below playoffs is sad.
On West only Warriors are complete garbage.
Both Kings and Suns would be in position to make playoffs if they can switch conference. Probably Blazers as well.

With Brooklyn gettin there act together, even without (or because) missing Kyrie & LeVert. There is only the 8th spot realistic for us to grab anyway. In that case, i just hope Detroit doesnt start to tank, but there owner is treadmill / 8th seed over everything too. There is nothing to win, being the least worst team of this horrible bunch, except ''continuity'' & bad pick we probably trade anyway, because Cliff can't work with more than 1 rookie.
Magic should look at Pacers if they want quick fixes.
They chased right free agents and even when some unexpected things happen ( Collison retired, Bojan left, Oladipo hurt ) they got Brogdon, TJ Warren, Lamb...
And they still hold strong asset in Sabonis ( that Magic threw away ...) when they decide to improve roster.
oh and by the way their 23rd pick Holiday looks better than Magic lottery pick from same draft

Players that Magic should target imo are:
Jrue Holiday
Jae Crowder
Bogdan Bogdanovic
Galinari ( salary dump )
CJ McCullum ( long shot...)
I'm not huge Crowder fan but he is versitale enough to be better than Aminu as SF of bench for sure
