If he produces at this level, with him and Siakam maxed they are going to be another Memphis. Really good, not good enough.

Getting the 1 seed will be important but I don't want anything to do with that Raptors team in the 2nd round.

I'll admit they're tough to put away. There's a resilience and winning culture. Their guys benefited immensely being around kawhi and seeing how he carries himself. I remember lowry saying that they somewhat took on his persona. I can understand not wanting anything to do with them but if it happens, bring it on. Just like kawhi, historically the team with the best player wins. I'll bet on our guy.

BTW i saw some of this game. I'm not a believer of this lakers team. I'm not seeing much depth.
In reference to our title winning year

So do you think they shouldn't pay FVV? I get where your coming from and I used to fall more in the binary clear champ contender or rebuild group but I've kind evolved on that. Every teams circumstances are unique but I've definitely shifted to being more in favor of try to stay as good as you can and be oportunistic with moves that push you over the top.

Even the Memphis teams you mentioned I don't think it was wrong how they approached things and they were probably one good move for a shooting wing from having a good shot at a chip. Hell even though they didn't ultimately accomplish their goals that was still a very positive run for a franchise thats been historically bad. It's not always as simple championship or failure.

As the season progresses, think it could be clear that FVV and Siakam are the type of guys you can get the Conference Finals with. i.e. guys you don't mind paying max to. Siakam is already a top 15 player now.

Siakam sure. Fred VanVleet as a guy you "don't mind paying the max to"? Sorry PP, I think you're off your rocker on that one.

The Raptors board lost whatever was left of their minds over that Lakers win. You hate to see such an outstanding group of people embarrass themselves like that.

He's had exactly two games this year that would suggest he's worth a max. He's been absolutely putrid outside of those two games. I can't think of any other player that's gone from underrated to overrated this fast.

I think he will get more than Brogdon because of Brogdon's success changing teams and enlarging his role, but I don't think he'll get to the max, and I find it especially hard to believe he'd get it from Toronto.

I had Orlando in mind as a potential suitor, but I checked and of course they're capped out. Go-go gadget John Hammond spending spree on average talent.

I really wanted Jabari to be great here. Seems like he can carve out a solid career yet as like a 6th man scorer. Seems like ATL has been a good fit so far. Curious how long his knee holds up.

Just want to throw out there that, among all guards averaging at least 20mpg, FVV's 53.4 TS% is good for 106th in the league. Oh, also, it's only .5 points below his average last season, so this is not just a small sample size.

He is super inefficient with the ball. All he can do is shoot 3s, but for some reason, he tries to do more than that. As long as Toronto keeps winning and he is shooting around a 40% clip from deep it won't matter. But seeing him on anything close to a max contract would be absolute hilarity.

If FVV gets the Max, Middleton will no longer be a Top 2 worst contract in the league.

I think there's a lot of assumptions in both what I wrote and the general state of the NBA.

If they sign VV and it hampers their ability to chase someone else, that's bad. If he signs a reasonable contract, that's good. If Lowry comes back on a more team-friendly deal, that may work also.

What does the East look like? If they are sitting behind us, sixers and maybe even Boston and Nets then I'm not sure signing VV to a big deal is defensible.

Masai knows what he's doing, it'll be interesting to see.

Agree. Their fans need to just make mess until he sells. At this point you'd think he hates being ripped on and made fun of and would just take the Billions and enjoy the rest of his life. But, rich dudes with big egos I guess.

I wish I didn't get so caught up with Tatum's rookie playoff run.

And Nowak is like 60% right on his Smart takes. Hell of a player.

Remember that time I said Tatum was definitely not Tracy McGrady/Paul Pierce and was closer to Tim Thomas because I remember it.

Best non-rookie value contract in the league. Crazy that Lavine almost got 2x the money. Some players are winning players, some guys just lose.
