Well, that's where the MLE would have gone.

Very disappointed he spurned us but at least we know Mitch had the right target. He is the rim protector we need and he runs the floor well and finishes well. He really fits this group. Kudos to Mitch for his scouting. Very reassuring.

Brandon Clarke looking real solid. I know he was a reach for us, but I was definitely on the fence about picking him.

Shot 7/7 tonight, 18 points and 8 rebounds. Has a 3.7 DBPM.

If we would've kept Kemba, I think Clarke is better than PJ. But PJ is 2 years younger, so better for our group now.

Many here and elsewhere were saying he is not legit nba player, i am glad the kid is proving them otherwise.
Hopefully Hornets will get their undersized big sooner than later (a la Birch/Harrell/Clarke/Collins & co). And avoid having couple of stars and an ocean of mediocrity once one of the star decide to move on like what happened with Kemba.

Why? PJ is already a better basketball player, has a higher ceiling, and is 2 years younger. Adding another player that doesn't space the floor isn't going to suddenly give Kemba more room operate on offense. Clarke isn't starting for a bad Memphis team.

i see clifford's infamous clogged toilet offense is now fully operational in orlando.
30th in ppg @ a putrid 95/game
30th in fg%, 3pt%, ef%, ts%
30th in off rating
28th in pace

but 2nd in fewest turnovers and 6th in def reb % and 6th in def rating...so... yay?

Kemba doesn't have 2 years. If he was on the team, the time to compete would be now. Spacing is fine with Zeller shooting 3s, but I'd look to an upgrade if Love was availble. Clarke roaming the lane is good for help defense with Kemba since he gets mismatched so often due to his size.

Not sure I'd call Memphis a bad team. Clarke is getting 22 minutes a game which is pretty reasonable considering his draft position. They also have Jaren Jackson and Jonas Valancianus that Clarke would be competing with minutes for. If Clarke was here in Charlotte, I could see him taking a bigger role with Marvin just playing spot minutes.

He appears to be doing a hell of a job bringing Isaac along though.

Kids totally busting out this year.

If the NBA gifts them the first overall pick, I'm done with this league.

Bacon played 16 1/2 minutes and shot 0%

Keep playing your boy Borrego?

At least Carter-Williams added 2 rebounds, 3 assists and a block.

one team is rebuilding and trying out youth, the other wants to go to the playoffs. the fact that Borrego cut a starters minutes to 16 shows he's happy to yank whose not working.
MCW is shooting 27% for the year, he is terrible.

Orlando is staring Fultz, Isaac and Gordon.

They have vets like Ross, Augustin and Aminu coming off the bench.

They are developing youth as well - they are just 2 years into their rebuild Vs our 1.

And Bacon is shooting 34.2% for the year......but is meant to be a shooter/scorer (and does little else).

Orlando has been rebuilding since 2013, it's been a lot longer than 2 years.

and Bacon got benched, rightfully playing half the minutes than Graham did off the bench.
Meanwhile MCW played almost as long as Fultz.
Bacon was our 2nd round pick we were hoping to develop into something after a promising end to last season.
MCW was probably out of the league until he got the call from Orlando.

Orlando's rebuild is what happens when you don't fully commit to the tank. 2013 #2, 2014 #4, 2015 #5, 2016 #11, 2017 #6.

Only 1 pick in the top 3 during a rebuild increases risk of ruin exponentially. Compare that to Philly who had 2 #1s and 2 #3s.

Our timing of a rebuild is fortunate in that the end of our 3rd year will be the 2022 Double draft with the most talent of any draft of the past decade. If we can just commit to the tank this year and next and get two top 3 picks, our chances of success are pretty high.

2019-20 --- Need a top 3 pick
2020-21 --- Need a top 3 pick
2021-22 --- Double draft, top 3 talent can be found at pick 6

Obviously, scouting plays a role too. But, the top picks are usually the safest bets.
