Tatum is still overall an inefficient scorer so far but i'd say the main reason why is Brown is quietly having an All Star start to the year. He's averaging 19.8 points on 13.8 shots per game.

Tatum hasnt been hitting shots, but he’s been fantastic defensively this year.

That's true but he's supposed to be the main scoring punch. You can't expect Kemba to be making 8 threes every game. He needs to up his efficiency or the Cs will struggle against better teams soon. For this to work out the team needs him to be a 20ppg guy in reasonable number of attempts.

Meh— if the team continues to be +30 per 100 possessions with him on the court, he’s doing something right.

He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn the first 3 games of the season (but was still putting points on the board), but after that he had a two week stretch where he was shooting over 50%. Until last night of course, but I don't think we can expect him to have that kind of night again anytime soon.

Should be a ban on the phrase “got exposed”.

Its one of those things where if you find a different way to say what you mean, you’re almost certain to say something closer to what you actually mean.

It ranks up there with "destroyed" or "owned" in hyperbolic, lazy internet parlance.

I thought this thread was locked or I would have resurrected it last night! Just hoping to weather the storm and get a healthy Hayward back to finish the season off right!

55-60 wins is a stretch. Especially now that hayward is out 2 months. Their depth at the 1-4 spots isn’t close to what it’s been in the past.

I doubt he'll be out 2 months. They gave a six week timeframe and they're usually pretty conservative with this stuff. He'll be back in about 5 weeks I'm thinking.

I wouldn't be surprised. I think this is a 4-6 week injury. Last year Baynes suffered the same injury on December 19th. It was a 4-6 week timeline. I think the Celtics just put the conservative timeline out there. Baynes was back on January 16th.

It could be 6 weeks though, who really knows.

His efficiency had pretty much recovered to around average before the Dallas debacle. He will be fine if he can make a layup.

Spoiler:
Psst. if you guys want this thread to stay open, don't just post that you hope for that. Post something content-y.

A rebuild has several acts. The first went as well as we could have hoped, with the Brooklyn picks coming up big for us, and successfully courting Hayward/Horford. Then we got to the second act and all the drama unfolded, with Hayward's leg snapping and Kyrie wrecking our locker room. Very easily could have gone into a complete tailspin at this point.

Now, it looks like we're entering the third act. Major remaining storylines are Tatum/Brown's development, Kemba's leadership, Hayward's return, and hopefully the MEM pick. Still very much in the air what kind of ending this book is going to have...

One of the things that never really happened for us is to get that one lucky mid/late first or early second round pick who vastly exceeds expectations, like Draymond or Siakam. It's one of those things you can't take as a given, but can totally supercharge your rebuild if it does happen, and we had so many picks that it's really kind of a shame it never happened for us. We had a long string of mid-to-late 1st rounders / early 2nds (Olynyk #13, Young #17, Rozier #16, Hunter #28, Mickey #33, Yabusele #16, Zizic #23, Ojeleye #37), where only Olynyk and Rozier managed to carve out a role in the league, and we lost both of them for nothing due to cap necessities.

This season, finally, finally, it looks like we might have hit a little bit on this draft. Rob Williams is flashing all kinds of potential from the #27 spot, just at the moment that we desperately needed a miracle at C, and Grant Williams (#22) and undrafted rookie Javonte Green are honestly playing like respectable rotation players.

Good point. However, what I meant was that with Hayward they might be a 55-60 win regular season caliber team that will struggle in playoffs against teams that have the best player. That said, it remains to be seen how his loss affects their record as it’s pretty soft for the rest of the month and they have no onerous road trips in December.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Ya, I picked the Celtics to finish 3rd in the conference so I’m not surprised they look good. They have a great coach and still had a lot of talent left over after the summer purge. I still think 50-52 is a more likely number. They’ll have some down times this season too and 60 is rarefied air.

Interesting definition of "cruising".

You do realize that the Mavs were actually leading the game with 5:44 left in the 4th? With KP laying an egg as big as Tatums? That it took a 70 seconds span of Kemba hitting three contested threes in a row while the Mavs had a layup and FT rolling out of the rim and that this sucked the life out of the Mavs for the rest of the game.

the Celtics actually dodged a major bullet that the Mavs bricked like a dozen of wide open 3s in the first half alone. Because for the entire game they couldnt stop Luka from breaking down the defense and create open 3s.

Both teams are shooting around 35% from deep this season. Mavs shot 11-42 (26% despite all the open looks), Celtics shot 15-35 (43%). There you have your point differential...

I was somewhat unimpressed by the Celtics because i expected them better. Yes, first game without Hayward but the Mavs also played their 4th in six days. Tatum and KP cancelled each other out in epic fashion but like i said the Celtics couldnt stop Luka all game long from creating the 3s for the teammates. And if the Mavs hit them like they normally do the Mavs win...
