i mean, espn has a "sneakers of the week" section and not too long ago they tried to drum up interest in the ball family when lonzo was on the lakers and his dad was being a jackass. they've been bleeding money and viewers for years so any time they can take something and run with it, they will.

Fortunately there's a lot of bad teams on this list.
Double Quote.
Just want to add that I've looked these over and none of these are important enough for me to care about how we do his load management when these pairs come up.
If the Lakers were on one of the back to backs, I'd wish for the Clippers to adjust, so he can play the Laker game portion of the back to back. Good thing they're not.
QRich said he's willing to punt on the Laker games during Load Management.
I'm not. I wish for him to play all 4 against the Lakers. I just checked the schedule. There's nothing funny about the Laker games scheduling. They aren't on back to backs. None of the remaining 3 are the 4th of 5 nights etc. etc.

I'm sure he's playing. Paul George is back tomorrow so Kawhi would sit the 2nd game of this b2b.Yogatti wrote:No news on if Kawhi plays tonight so far....

Re: Kawhi Leonard
Long Term Kawhi has a knee issue.
I can see it in his lift.
He doesn't want to damage his knee.
Looking at last years playoffs and this year LM you can tell something is not right with his knee as mention by the NBA.
It looks serious that it will cut his career short. He looks to be one of the greatest if healthy at the Guard. He seems young but his legs look tender.

Just get to the playoffs. That's all the matter, then you need 16 more wins (road or home).
Kawhi has another gear for the playoffs, and so I don't blame him or the Clippers for resting him as much as they can, his legs are deteriorating but he has a few elite years left so maximize them with deep playoff runs.
It worked really well for the Raps last year because it also allowed other guys to step up and find their groove. It strengthens your bench leading up to the playoffs, and we had many different guys step up at different times during the '19 run. The key though will be to stop relying (mentally and physically) so much on Kawhi or George and Doc has to get everyone to step up every night. If you go in with a mind set that 10 guys need to step up every night to win, Clips will be dominant.

I definitely noticed that some of the players don't have that offensive desperation which led to exceeding expectations last year. They look a bit too comfy, and honestly I'm glad we're getting some of these losses out of the way right now. They need a sense of urgency kicked back into them. As a Raptors fan, are you worried about the way Kawhi is playing and does it look weird to you? I know a lot of us Clipper fans were expecting a bit more early in the season, but I also feel like it's a long season and a part of the process.

I honestly think Kawhi's condition is real, but he's only 28 so there is definitely some treads left on the tires. Raptors got him after almost a year and a half of rest, and he still needed to take 20 games off in the regular season and at times in the playoffs he seemed banged up and tired (in the legs). Clippers are getting him after a long playoff run, and it seems like he's already feeling the effects.
What you're seeing now is what will probably be the case with Kawhi forever, which is, he can play as the best player in the world on both ends of the court, but he cannot do it every night. He simply needs to save himself for the big moments.
Which is why Paul George and the other guys are so important. Raptors had contributions night in night out from 9+ other guys last season, and we played just as well with, or without Kawhi, during the regular season. However, come playoff time, there were certain times where he just lead the way and carried us, when we needed him most. Especially on the defensive end. I have no doubt he'll do the same for you, but he may only be able to suit up for 50 games.
Clippers need to be a 55+ win pace team without Kawhi to win it all. Doc needs to install that in the squad. Kawhi won't carry, us, neither will George, we need 10 guys every night to play their best game. Classic down and nasty Clippers ball on both ends. I think it's doable because Clippers have that in their DNA, but it just takes time to unlock it. Lou, Harrell and George can drop 60 on any squad any night.
Kawhi will step up during the big conference match ups, and in the playoffs. But his durability will always be a thing and should be managed accordingly.
Id much rather face the Clips in the regular season than the playoffs. One the big factors last year for us was Nick Nurse ability to make adjustments game to game. Let's hope Doc can do the same.

yeah, and this is probably a good reason why kawhi pushed so hard for a second star in a trade. he wants to win but he knows that he is going to have to play at a subdued level in the RS, and miss quite a few games on top of it.

This sums it up perfectly, thank you. I know we're a scarier team in the Playoffs than the regular season. A lot of it also has to do with Doc and his rotations. I gotta say though, that's like one of his biggest weak points I've seen. He throws out offensive lineups which sacrifice on the defensive end. I've been watching this for years.
Nick Nurse on the other hand, such a good Coach. Doc's specialty is the Xs and Os, but I wouldn't mind having a guy like Nurse or Kerr. Rotations are so important, especially since every team needs to be tackled in such a specific way. So far, Doc's "sliding lineup" he alluded to has just been PatPat at the 4 lol.

Re: Kawhi Leonard
historically i've been one of the first people to hammer on doc for garbagey lineups.
but it's not something i'm gonna blast him for this early into the season when the team hasn't been at full strength. moreover, there's a lot of clamor to play some of the younger guys, but guess what? they're all second-round talents, and that includes robinson, imo. there's just not really a lot of leeway with this team in terms of throwing "step up" type players cause they're either the guys who are what they are (jmg, rmc, hark) or they're too far from contributing (mann, robinson).
like yeah i think if we're halfway into the season and doc is somehow playing ppat like 20mpg then we have to wonder what the hell he's doing, but the team doesn't have a foundation simply because of the circumstances of paul george being out until now.
let's give it a few games and see what the team can do with the key players in place.

We can bash the 2pat thing now. No need to wait lol. The guy is not a rotational player. If he wants to stay on the team, he has to be a Jared Dudley type of guy. Glue guy that they can call on (to play limited mins) when someone's resting.nickhx2 wrote:historically i've been one of the first people to hammer on doc for garbagey lineups.

It worked well because the raptors was already familiar with each other. You make it sound like they all found their groove that season. They've been running the same system more or less for several yrs. Nick nurse was an asst coach for the raptors before he became a head coach. He was there when demar was there. So was Pascal, so was fred.RoyceDa59 wrote:Just get to the playoffs. That's all the matter, then you need 16 more wins (road or home).

I agree with the rest. I think they need a playmaker. Kawhi is not a playmaker. He can make plays when asked but being a playmaker takes so much energy out of him. He needs someone that can get him the ball in the spots he wants.

Mavs' fan here. Haven't seen a full Clip Joint game all season, but when I see the highlights (for games Kawhi has sat), I never see him on the bench. Is Kawhi at the games & I just haven't seen it or has he been away? Does he have something personal going on? I can't figure out why I don't see him on the bench in street clothes.
Return to Los Angeles Clippers
