Does Kawhi Leonard get any consideration so far? 26 pts 9 rebounds, 6 assists, best 4th quarter closer and on 98 defensive rating bball reference, 13.1 net rating on NBA.com, 7-2 record with him and 0-2 without him, his team has beat raptors Lakers jazz.

A guy who misses 20% of his games for rest is never gonna get any real consideration, nor should he

At this stage it feels like Giannis, Lebron, and Harden, and then a big gap. The fourth guy might be Siakam which is crazy.

What exactly is the case for Lebron here when he has another Top-5 player in the league on his team putting up better numbers than him across the board (efficiency, points, PER, WS/48, defensive metrics)? I'm just not seeing it.

He is only missing 1/2 of every back to backs which is 71 games. That's enough to win MVP, harden won at 72 games and Bill Walton was even less i believe.

Of course he gets consideration right now. I think at least 10 players are getting consideration.

Beat the Raptors on the second game of a back-to-back isn't very impressive.

And if he plays 70+, he’ll be a contender. But he’s already missing 11 guaranteed, I have very little confidence he’ll play other 71 games

66+ games is enough in my book. That said, he will have a couple injuries where he misses a week or 2 during the year IMO.

66 is not enough. He's competing against guys like Harden and Giannis who will have likely better numbers, will win around the same games or more and, in giannis's case, wont have a co-star anywhere near as good as PG. It's unlikely as it is, if he plays that few games, he wont have a shot.

Pretty sure Clips have 12 b2bs so 70 games, but yeah, it's possible he could win. I think voters will penalize him for load mgmt though. The fact he recruited PG out of OKC will also likely bias voters against him though I suppose you could make that case for Lebron as well (who btw didn't win in 2011 after leaving for Miami even though he was the best player and didn't sit out games). I think Kawhi is going to need the perfect sequence of events to win it (i.e. best overall record + bad record when he sits + down years for Harden, Lebron, and Giannis, etc.)

Beat the Raptors on the second game of a back-to-back isn't very impressive.

Kawhi played better vs raptors than LeBron did and that should be taken in consideration as well.

Lebron's not a real candidate though (neither is Kawhi, atm). The production difference between he/Kawhi and guys like Giannis and Harden is huge. It's early season, and stats are quick to change at this point, but as is, it's a 2 man race 10 games in.
