Luka's stats 26 8 8 are definitely MVP numbers. I think he's definitely in the discussion. If he leads this team to 50 wins I think he has a real shot at it.

Re: Luka Dončić Discussion - Year 2
I said when people were talking about Luka's potential numbers, that they were low on his rebounding. Luka is a truly elite rebounder for his size, and IMO with the lack of a truly dominant rebounding big could possibly average 10 boards this season. If guys are able to knock down shots this year at a decent rate, he could hit 10 assists too.
Points will be somewhere between 25-30 regardless.

So if Luka takes human growth hormones and “supplements” will he become 2-3 times better than Lebron? Or would he just end up growing a pumpkin head?

Re: Luka Dončić Discussion - Year 2
I need to drop the habit of capturing plays, because there are just too many.
And it's comical how, like yesterday, it's as if it was just like a walk through. Toying with the Cavs. Like he did last year. Like he did with the Wizards opening this year. Only occasionally did he want to reward himself by taking one of the 'low percentage' step backs.

I think the Mavs has to think about load management for Luka as well. The Mavs has the luxury to do so with so many playmakers around the roster. This might give more stability with lineup. Without Zinger, which five will be starters. Without Luka, which five will be starters. All players could show off the strength at the right time. And the Mavs could actually train players up during the process.

In this era of basketball, every player in the NBA is load-mananged. Last season James Harden played the 2nd most minutes with 2867. That would have been good for 36th in the league in 2000-01.

The Mavs were close in all 5 of the losses and all Iremember is Luka turning the ball over and missing (bad) shots.
You had this fresh on your mind

I wouldn't label it 'atrocious', because in some of the games he missed shots, he also had key moments prior to the finish where brought the team back/competing for the win. He has not yet hit been able to hit the 'go ahead/tying' shots this season. That's a fact.
Last 5 mins

Last 2 mins

Also --- late game execution as a whole needs refining.
Two games vs Knicks.
Game 1 --- down 3, Luka takes tough attempt to tie the game. 21 seconds left on the clock.
Game 2 --- down 3, Luka drives to the basket. 5.8 seconds remaining. No timeouts.
Mavs overall just have not been good in the last 5 mins of close games

One of those TOs yesterday was such a weird pass too. It was obviously getting intercepted. I don't understand what he was thinking.
That 3pt shooting... I understand he's tired and can't drive all the time, but he can't settle for 3s so much. Especially when he's obviously still not quite there as a 3pt shooter.

Yeah, that first one. There was a really small gap for a moment I guess, but the bounce was off by about 10 feet. It wasn't close.
Anyway, 20yo. He'll keep getting better in those situations. I'm only so hard on him because he has proven he can do it already.

Re: Luka Dončić Discussion - Year 2
Yea I don’t mind it too much. We use Luka the whole game pretty much to stay close. At the end of games it’s extra hard for him to create a good shot as the defensive pressure heightens on him. All I can hope for is as he continues to be in these end of game situations he improves as well as makes better decisions. While watching the game I end up critiquing hard but I have pull back and remember this is year 2 in the NBA. But his play does make you have high expectations lol.
One thing I also noticed, idk if it was Ricks plan or not but this Knick game was the second time the Mavs had no timeouts and opted for a quick score with time on the clock instead of just using up the time and going for a 3 to tie the game. IMO doesn’t make sense to go for a quick score when you have no timeouts and can’t advance. Use that clock to run a good play for a 3. The Luka ISOs at the end of the game have been turning into stepbacks which is low percentage and quite lazy to me. But all we can hope for is improvement.
Shoutout to Luka, as good as we thought he’d be, dude is insanely good, no way anyone expect such high impact and triple doubles left and right making it look effortless.

If you are playing against Mavs, then your strategy makes sense to me (as we saw in last Lakers game). But against any team with half of one player's brain working, I am not sure how this makes sense. Surely when the time is running out the opposing team will foul you for two free throws?

I think that's actually a philosophical difference between the NBA and European basketball. Seems like in Europe you always foul. In the NBA, I have noticed over the years many European fans who were dumbfounded with teams not fouling like you suggest. In the NBA there are various coaches who don't foul in those situations.

I don't know, vs. Lakers everyone was criticizing the team and Carlisle for not fouling. He did say the intention was to foul but the execution was not there. I don't really understand that, but whatever he says. And Kleber has no philosophical excuse, he is German.
