beal cannot be traded this year

Beal is not eligible to be traded until after the 2019-20 season because the first year of his extension is greater than 5% from his 2020-21 salary.

maybe we should rename the thread to this?

Not to mention Hardaway Jr. bricking away, Scwepps Doncic should be averaging 20 assists

The thing about this (and of course there were shades of the same thing with the Jimmy deal last year) is that CP3 takes the ball out of Ben Simmons' hands. Now, if philly bombs out in the playoffs again, i could see Presti finding a way to make a Simmons for CP3 deal work next summer, with his massive stash of young talent and future picks.

I don't think Simmons is the cornerstone piece Philly thinks/wishes he was

Simmons is a good player but he’s not one of those top tier guys. Basically a bigger Rondo and seems to have little interest in evolving his game. Embiid’s conditioning remains a big problem too.

If any team needs a new coach it’s the 6ers. Brown has done a good job getting them to where they are but they need a new voice to take them up a notch.

I feel like Philly needs some time to get their **** together, but I also think there's something fundamentally wrong with how that team has been put together (more than one thing). I still think they have the pieces and roster value to reorganize in a coherent way, and they've got a GM who is anything but afraid to make moves, but you have to wonder how long that value sustains if they're still a 4-5 seed after 20, 30, 40 games. At some point, somebody's going to get blamed.

Rich man’s Evan Turner. Agreed he’s good, but doesn’t seem like a dominant all NBA type guy.

Which pick did the Hawks blow on Cam Reddish again?

#10. He's been so bad so far.

P.J Washington and Herro went few picks after. First they whiff on passing on Doncic, and now this. And they were thiiiis close to getting Giannis.

What stings about Reddish isn't so much that he's a bad rookie. Lots of guys are bad rookies. Reddish was a bad college player. He's Skita -- the theoretically good prospect.

Everybody laughed at the Cam Johnson pick but it would be shocking if Cam Reddish is ever as good as Cam Johnson.

The Hawks will make the playoffs if they stop playing Reddish. If they keep playing Reddish, they will not make the playoffs.

I know nothing - how do we feel about DDV vs. Huerter these days?

One player taking 41 shots is pretty gross. Regardless of his "TS%".

It's incredible how many bullets we've dodged with the Sixers. If Simmons had learned to shoot a little, if Fultz or Okafor had become something, if someone better than Harris had picked them last summer, if they paid Butler instead of Harris... so many ifs. They could easily be a dynasty, instead they're just very good.

Besides shooting the ball, DDV laps him concerning every other basketball aspect.

I take DDV 10 out 10 times.

I am on record as loving both throughout the draft process, slightly preferring Huerter, but also praising the Donte selection. It's still close, but I am glad we have Donte. He's got an innate feel for the game that Huerter does not, although Huerter's length and shooting closes the gap a bit.

Good post. I'm definitely influenced by some homerism. DDV having a nice game last night helped my cause there, too. 8-)

Hueter is a a nice player. He was definitely the better player last year. He's a natural shooter, solid NBA athlete, can create his own shot, make tough shots and plays hard. I think his length is average for a wing, like a big 2. He's thin, so I definitely think of him as a 2-guard... He would be perfect with the Bucks, exactly what they need. I'd definitely give up substantial draft capital to trade for him. I have no idea why ATL would be interested in that, especially with Reddish looking so bad.

Reddish is going to have a good stretch but unfortunately for the Hawks that will probably be like 5 years and 3 teams from now.

Huerter is still a tremendous prospect. He just turned 21 (1.5-2 years younger than DDV), and the big thing for him is that he's shown he could develop into an all-world shooting wing who also has the athleticism to stick with defenders, rebound, and drive to the basket. But he has a ways to go. The other thing he has going for him is that it appears he cares and wants it.

DDV has been looking good, obviously. I wanted him starting before he was even playing this season. I don't think we need to compare them, though. DDV should be further along, too, which is good for us. Even last year, as many (myself included) talked about wanting Huerter, I think it just goes back to the draft and when we had the pick and didn't take the guy many vocally wanted. It was more about wanting Huerter still when seeing him perform well, than it was about not wanting DDV.
