Siakam spent most of his rookie year up and down from G-League.

So: what we're talking about? It will be different if Zhaire doesn't improve during this season. That would be a different story.

Yeah, I don’t think people are factoring in enough what a lost year last year was for him after all.

On top of that he was raw to begin with.

Assuming he keeps his nose clean and works hard I think he will have every opportunity to develop here.

If trading him gets us a current piece then fine, but I’m not sure that he has enough value to make a difference to someone.

Can’t we just stash him and worry about him later?

Josh Richardson spent part of his rookie year in the G-LEAGUE, and he came out as a 22 year old Senior. This whole conversation about Zhaire is ridiculous.

Exactly, it's a big year for him.

Giving him time to develop in the G-League is a no brainer.

But big picture, he needs to get back to being a freak athlete to be a successful NBA player. It seems like the illness/injury last year sapped some of his explosiveness. Hopefully it returns with a little more time. If it does, he can "learn" to be a 3&D wing. Without his bounce he has no chance.

Serge Ibaka
DeMarre Carroll
P.J. Tucker
Patrick Patterson

vs.

Matisse Thybulle
James Ennis
Furkan Korkmaz

It's not just about Zhaire Smith getting sent to the G-League. It's about the weak competition he somehow finished at the bottom of. How can he not be playing over some of these guys?

no matter how good he looked in garbage time, if the guy refuses to play with our rotation, he deserves demotion. not sure where he gets off working on his 3ball, when outside shooting is the last thing this team needs.

It's about roles. Ennis is a vet, and performed solidly 8n the playoffs. He's not going to lose his position so soon to an unproven little-experienced player like Zhaire so quickly.

Korkmaz was re-signed to provide some of what's missing by Redick's departure. He's also on a tighter timeframe, having only two years, and he has more experience. Zhaire getting Kork's minutes doesn't help the Sixers find the shooter they are looking for, nevermind that Kork has not looked all that bad out there, unlike Ennis, but again Ennis is going to get some leeway given what he did last playoffs. Shake too, is projected to be a much more productive outside threat than Zhaire. Shooters are the priority. Zhaire could mainly hope to bump Thybulle, another mainly 3andD guy...who is a four year college player who is not transitioning from PF to wing like Zhaire. Sixers aren't no worse for wear having Zhaire work on his game in the G league, which is great. Let him develop and grow there. This was always the next evolution of the process, how Sam's "orchard" was to be born.

I have no problem with Brett playing Furkan... and I get it. We badly need 3 point shooting and Furkan is the only guy on that bench that was drafted to the NBA because of his 3 point shooting even if we haven't seen it yet with any consistency.

Furkan has shown in international play he can shoot and has come off a pretty good World Cup... 12ppg and shot 39% from three... so he should be ahead of most when it comes to touch to start the season. Brett's going to give him a chance to see if something clicks... and so far it hasn't. He will have a few more games and if Furkan shows nothing he will end up playing 2nd division Euro ball somewhere.

I'd expect they'll recall Zhaire while Shake recovers from his bone bruise/knee sprain.... whether he gets any run remains to be seen.

That would be great, but I get the impression they want Zhaire playing big minutes in the G-League.

Team seemed to be leaning Neto/Burke in the rotation over Zhaire in the preseason so they'll likely be the guys that get looks to replace whatever Shake was getting.

Getting consistent minutes after 1.5 years of barely any playing time seems like a good idea to me. His shot looks so much cleaner than at Texas Tech, that's already enough progress for me to keep believing in Zhaire.

After playing center in high school and being a 4 at college, he needs as many reps as possible as a perimeter player.

I mean... thank god we avoided drafting SGA and wound up with Zhaire Smith who's having a Royal Ivey-like impact in the G League.

We were POUNDING THE KEYBOARD for Shai for like 6 months in the draft thread. I said he was the 4th best player in the draft behind Jaren, Luka and Trae. Him being available 6 slots later than that was a rare gift. And Brett pissed it away.

We could have SGA, we drafted a good role player Bridges. But nah, we'd be better with gleague player and pick that we use for privilege to have top3 worst contract in NBA.

True. This isn't some foolish Giannis situation. I remember everyone here shouting about him for months.

Missing out on SGA haunts me. That combined with the big Tobias Harris contract and the overall way this team has been constructed, gives me very little faith in Brand.

We built exactly what Hinkie wanted to avoid. Expensive, with no top5 player, and with 2 role players on max contracts. No assets to improve either.

I understand the frustration about SGA, but don't forget we had Fultz at that time too on our squad
