How many guys on our roster (after Giannis) do you think can be the best player on the court for an ECF or finals game? That Raptors team had 3 different guys not named Kawhi.

Just doesn’t make sense for a Midds/Paul swap unless we’re shipping out picks or something (which OKC is flush with already). Why would they want to take on more money owed over the long term? It’d make more sense for them to just eat the CP3 deal and wait for it to expire. That team is in for a long rebuild and Midds makes no sense.

It’s interesting you mention the 4/$100m. I wonder what the market for Midds was like last year and if any other team seriously considered putting in an offer for him.

Stats from the Raptors series.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/2019-nba-eastern-conference-finals-raptors-vs-bucks.html

1. Kawhi
2. Giannis

tier

3. Lowry
4. Fred Van Vleet

tier
5. Siakam
6. Lopez
7. Middleton
8. Brogdon
9. Gasol
10. Hill
11. Ersan

It obviously is extremely hard to rank guys after #4 IMO, but Middleton wouldn't be in the top five IMO.

Yeah I could see Khris or Brook having a VanVleet moment occasionally.
Hell even Ersan had one crazy game off the bench.

Agree that it doesn't make sense for OKC to take on Midds or Tobias, unless something else is coming their way. Or you get a three way, where as noted Middleton goes to the Kings or T-Wolves, two up and coming teams with owners that might bite.

I would assume Middleton would have gotten a 4/$140 max last year from Philly or Dallas. The free agency cash was out there in droves. I understand the realities of when Khris hit the market. He'd have gotten overpaid by some team last July.

What is the obsession with pairing Paul and Bledsoe ?

Mostly that neither of their names are Khris Middleton I think.

No obsession. Just spitballing. I'd be looking to dump Middleton's contract and Paul's matches. And Paul gives you arguably what you've been missing. i.e. a floor general who can give the offense a 180 degree different look than Giannis going one on five when the defense tightens in the fourth.

I want to see how much DDV and Brown improve with the increased role, and then I’d say you dangle that Indiana pick + Wes/Rolo/Pat and see if you can get a good player on a rental or someone like Covington.

Are you comfortable going into the playoffs with two tiny guards (one being on the last legs of his career)?

I'm not necessarily comfortable going into the playoffs with Eric Bledsoe as my primary ball handler.

Again, I have no push to deal Middleton now. Let this stuff sort itself out on the court. We may end up missing him quite a bit. Then again one of the other guys might emerge and we don't miss much. Don't know.

A floor general has no place in Bud’s offense.

No interest in watching CP3 pound the ball into the ground for 18 seconds, or jeopardize a very delicate Giannis situation (chemistry).

Just too risky right now, there has to be better options out there.

I, personally, would just play wait and see with Portland right now. Hope they keep floundering and see who becomes available.

I wouldn't make any major trades, the way the east looks right now we're going to be fine.

IMO, to beat the Bucks in a 7 game series you need two things. Championship level depth, and the gap between Giannis and your best player can't be a canyon. You need both.

The Raptors checked the box on both last season, very solid depth and the gap between Giannis and Kawhi was a very small one. This year, there isn't a team in the east that can check both boxes. Now if we're talking Clippers and Lakers and the NBA finals, that's a different story. In the east though, assuming good health and assuming Bledsoe doesn't completely fall off an unplayable cliff in May, the Bucks are going to waltz to the NBA Finals as they are currently constructed.

Michael Redd all over again.

#22
2nd round pick
shooter with lazy body
After 7 seasons (and big salary) injuries start to hapen more and more because they dont prepare their body

At least this time we have Antetokoumbo but still it hurts.

Pump on the brakes Sigra.

Middleton already tore his hammy, badly, and came back better than ever. You don’t do that without working your ass off.

Redd tore his ACL coming down from a dunk (freak injury) and then got fat. You don’t have to agree with the Middleton contract but let’s not predict his fate to be Redd’s just because they both wore 22

I believe you missed the part where they were both also second round picks.

And under that scenario, Middleton becomes valuable since he matches up well with Boston. Wouldn't have predicted Boston to be where they are at right now.

Khris got slower from the hammy, also got less active on D. First thing was the Bucks having a shoddy practice facility and bad luck, he got a good payout from it tho. The second thing, dropping the defensive intensity once the scoring goes up, that happens to nearly every perimeter guy once they increase their usage. Lucky Giannis is an exception to that.

This is true. Seems like Brown should be able to guard him but that hasn't been the case, Tatum is a **** defender so that checks out. Smart is too small and Khris isn't super effective to flop against in the post. It'll be interesting to see GH guard him if he's healthy.

Well, you will probably not believe me but I predicted Middleton being next Redd long time ago. In his 2nd season with us I think. 4 years ago. I even wrote here that I expect him to be injured all the time when he secure big money. That kind of players unfortunately. You will see.
