Saw Doctor Sleep this afternoon. I'd give it a solid B+. Some really high notes but some things I didn't like:

Spoiler:
I didn't like the fact that they recasted Shelly Duvall, little Danny Lloyd, and Jack Nicholson. I know it's been 40 years since it came out, but it was distracting. I wish they found a way to either rely on footage from the original film or CGI'd them somehow.

Also, the film needed more editing - I think it easily could have been a half hour shorter if they cut out some unnecessary exposition.

But other than those complaints, I generally enjoyed the **** out of it.

A week in between episodes of Watchmen is painful.

Public Service Announcement:

I just noticed an episode of Netflix’s The Characters is Tim Robinson’s.

So if you’re jonesing for more I Think You Should Leave, theres basically another episode out there for you. Same co-writer and everything.

That is all.

I was hesitant to start Watchmen because of the fact that I HATED the film version. It sounds like I should give it a shot.

I liked it quite a bit. And all of my kids cried so it must've been good. :D

Edit: I'm sitting here trying to figure out what someone could dislike about that. Curious to hear what you didn't like about it.

I didn't like the movie either and I've never been into the source material. Watchmen was on my radar but it wasn't something I thought was going to be anything incredible. I was wrong, it's the best show on TV.

I don't know squat about the source material or the movie but isn't the TV show sort of a sequel to that? As in, this is all new content but set in the same world and with the same characters? I could be totally off on that but I don't want to research it and see spoilers.

So far there are two direct characters from the movie and other periphery characters from the source material. Lots of references to both in every episode, but I don't know that you really need to have knowledge of either to enjoy the show. Ten minutes on wikipedia will help.

I thought it was about as good as part 4 of something could be. A meditation on losing your “forever owner” (i.e. divorce, widowhood, your kid growing up, etc).

But its a cartoon, so Im not going to throw down with the guy who hated it.

Also, my kids liked it.

It seemed unnecessary after 3 and rehashed some things that they've done before like the theme of not being wanted anymore and getting lost and having to make it back home. The set pieces were pretty boring as almost all of it took place in the antique store and the carnival. Most of the OG characters were just kind of there to be there although I enjoyed forky and the carnival bears.

And then at the end Woody makes this impulse decision to forget loyalty and ditch everyone because he wants to get it in. I guess you could say it shows him evolving as a character but it was rushed and pretty lame.

Dont allow yourself to be attacked on this. TS 1-3 are among the best kids movies ever made. TS4 was an empty mess of a movie that betrayed much of the character's foundational principles.

It was crap. At least in comparison to the first 3.

Who's attacking him?

I just didn't see it the way he did. Big deal.

I asked because I literally don't know anybody with his opinion so I wanted to hear it.
