GT #12: Wiz vs Spurs, 11/20, 7 PM

Post#1 » by nate33 » Wed Nov 20, 2019 5:59 pm

Okay, I'll take the bullet.

Your Wizards host a reeling San Antonio Spurs team, losers of their last 6 games in a row. Naturally, the Spurs will bring extra effort to this game to break their streak.

I'm getting real tired of the Wizards' horrible defense. It's not that they're not trying, it's just that they look totally confused and out of sync. I can accept that the team lacks any plus defenders so I'm not expecting miracles, but I'd like to see them execute a defensive scheme with a least a modicum of competency. Stop over-helping on non-threats. Stop falling asleep on back door cuts. Help out Bryant and Wagner on the defensive glass by getting a body on someone. Let's go people!

If the defense could be at least passably competent in its execution, the offense is good enough to win a lot of games.

It's hard to cover up for 2 positions. When we have IT out there, we have 2 really bad defenders - the PG and the PF. Right now, Rui's an awful defender (hopefully learning), and Bertans is very limited at PF. Bertans playing against his old team will score 25, but Spurs are more motivated and take it 123 to 109.

Edit - if Forbes gets a bunch of open 3's, I'm going to have to change channels.

Going an entire game without having two defenders rush to challenge an open shooter whilst leaving a player unguarded three feet from the rim would be a start.

I like our chances in this one! Make or miss league, if the shots continue to fall for us don't see how Spurs keep up. Any tall person we have on the bench should get IT's minutes in this one, bad match up for him.

It's the Spurs against the Wizards.

I can't think of any scenario where this isn't a guaranteed loss.

Yes.

To be fair, Gooden is pretty new at this so maybe he'll get better. But for now, he's terrible.

Nobody can understand why they got rid of Buckhantz.

They replaced Chenier with Kara Lawson, which was fine at the time. But Lawson was so good that ESPN picked her up. Now we're stuck with Gooden.

Every single time we force a miss, they get the offensive board.

Somebody coined the term not Goodenough.

Puzzling series of moves, going from a strength with the Chenier and Buckhantz pairing to the one of the worst announcing teams in the league.

FYI, Lawson joined the Celtics as assistant coach.

MOmentum changes when MO Wagner comes in. He's +4 and has 5 points and 2 blocks in his first 4 minutes.

The defense is actually looking pretty competent over these last few minutes.

So you're telling me the Wizards wouldn't be better off with Smith starting?

Pretty good lineup on the floor right now: Ish, Beal, Miles, Rui, Wagner.

I'd like it more with Brown replacing Miles, but either way, I'm happy to see Ish and Wagner on the floor with Beal and Rui.

Woo Hoo ! I see some stops!
