he could be a covington type 3D wing if he ever gets his 3ball going. he can switch 1-4.

Think we hit on another 2nd round pick. Martin was +14 on the floor tonight and is putting up stats across the board. If he keeps doing what he's doing, could easily make a career coming off the bench.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Re: Thing #1: The Cody Martin Thread
Cody energetic and non-stopping
Batum desultory and laze
Really disappointing that youth development being put aside here
that the fan joy of watching Cody fly around to impact the game multiple ways
has given way to Batum’s impotence

I agree but hopefully its just a strategy to try to move Batum by the trade deadline. Although I'm not sure him actually playing in games is helping him any more than just sitting on the bench. Can't imagine anyone will be burning up the phone to pay him the rest of this, and next, season based on anything we've seen so far. Talk about an all-time screw up.

I dig the poetry. And completely agree with the sentiment.
I miss Martin's energy, he brought fun moments to every game that Batum simply doesn't. The team isn't a playoff contender anyway, let's give the young energy guy the minutes and hope he blossoms.
Unless the master plan is to somehow ship Batum off to a sucke-, uh happy new home, let him get comfy on the bench.

Just here to remind everyone that the last two point shot attempt Batum has taken came last season. Let that sink in.

Horrible...simply horrible.
Game logs for the 31 year old waste of space -
4 games:
Game 1: 0 pts 4 reb 2 turnovers 11min
Game 2: 3 pts 9 reb 2 turnovers 29 min
Game 3: 3 pts 6 reb 2 turnovers 25 min
Game 4: 3 pts 5 reb 1 turnover 25 min
Why JB.... why? He should get 8 - 10 minutes max to help give the other guys a blow. Taking time away from players like Martin, Bacon & Washington goes against what 2019 is all about....unless the plan is to up his value and sell him off soon for a Popeye's chix sanwich.

Coach said he likes the calming influence of the veteran handling the ball.
You must admit, you never see Batum looking stressed

Re: Thing #1: The Cody Martin Thread
You can really see Martin's length on defense, that 6'10 wingspan is such an advantage for him.
Just keep playing the kid, he's already arguably a better player than Batum right now so let him build on that. If he can just get a 3pt shot we will be in serious business.

Re: Thing #1: The Cody Martin Thread
MKG had a 5 year run where he was a top 5ish defender in the entire league (RPM backs it up). Martin has plenty of defensive potential, but I don't think hes in the same league as prime MKG as a defender yet.
MKG seemed to have lost his edge after the double shoulder injury. He was always likely to end up a disappointment for his draft position, but before those injuries and in the brief time he played in between them (like 10 games I think) he really looked like he was turning the corner as a player.
I know you weren't bashing him or anything and this is completely off topic, but I think some people on this board are overly harsh of their assessment of his time here. The combination of Cliffords crappy development philosophy and the former regime allowing him to play again three months into a six month recovery process from a major surgery in order to make a run for an 8th seed kind of ruined the dudes career imo, especially the latter. None of the awful personnel decisions by Cho/MJ or maddening coaching decisions by Clifford ever came close to pissing me off as much as them throwing MKG under the bus that year and putting him at such a risk for reinjury. Its honestly probably the most messed up thing I've ever witnessed from the management of a team I followed. If I remember correctly, they cleared him for full contact 10 weeks after his surgery.

That's a name I haven't heard in a long time.
Walter Herrmann would kill it in today's NBA.

Re: Thing #1: The Cody Martin Thread
The future 2nd unit is starting to come into focus. If McDaniels can pan out, then I don't see why a unit that has Martin/Kubolka/McDaniels as our SG/SF/PF lineup doesn't have a ton of upside. Toss in a veteran PG and C and we can spell our starting 5 rather nicely.... if they continue to trend in this direction.

I like Zeller with those guys, assuming we could hit the jackpot for us in Wiseman
