This season is tricky.. I thought Kemba was signed to be training wheels for Brown and Tatum- but even if they’re not Kawhi/George yet, they’re ahead of schedule- not consistent or finished products, but good enough to help win games.. add a surprise bounce back from Hayward, and Kemba being a slightly less talented but more effective Kyrie.. if we’d been able to pull off a Kyrie sign and trade and kept Baynes and Horford, I’d have us as favorites in the East..
I see a few options:
A. Treat this as a developmental year going well, hope for luck with mid season buyouts (Baynes and Ibaka, after trades, would be the ideal), and let the chips fall..
B. Go all in this year, maybe with a Hayward trade but more likely with some combination of Theis/Kanter/Poirier, Langford, Edwards or Williams, and 1sts up to the Memphis pick for an impact big.
C. Trade Hayward to manage the cap sheet and set up long term success around Brown and Tatum by bringing in younger, cheaper upside players.
D. Some combination of B and C, moving Hayward to a contender or near contender (Portland, Denver, Miami, Orlando, San Antonio, Houston, Indiana) in a multi-team deal for a combination of assets - e.g. Aaron Gordon, Capela, Myles Turner, Bamba, Fultz, Steven Adams, Justise Winslow, Michael Porter Jr., Jusuf Nurkic, Nas Little, Anfernee Simons, etc.)
Just stay away from LaMarcus Aldridge
