OT: Pat Williams Trying to Bring MLB Team To Orlando

Not only is the name awful, but Pat Williams not surprisingly has no plan whatsoever.

This whole thing would be justifiably getting ROASTED by local and national media if it was anyone else besides Pat Williams making the pitch.

It's an absolutely positively awful idea that media members are not criticizing to the level they should because Pat is so beloved in this area.

In 1996, Pat Williams last tested the waters on the idea of bring MLB to Orlando. Back then, the name Dreamers was already floating around.

This is not an official logo of course, but the name, in my opinion, is fantastic. It makes me wish we still had the Orlando Miracle in town. You can see the image Orlando is trying to project, it's like the lineup of cruise ships (Wonder, Magic, Dream, Fantasy).

Plus, the team would play on the Field of Dreams.

I already signed up on the website to show my support. If there is a ground-swell of support, this could happen in some shape or form. There's talk of even having the Rays play in both Orlando and Tampa.

Also, what's prompting this is the League's vocal desire to expand to two new cities. I applaud Pat for taking the initiative.

I agree with the criticism of this initiative, but the whole dreamers thing and Disney flair just feels like a rehash of the Magic’s initial push, and that was in 1987. It’s 2019, Orlando can more than hold its own as a metropolis now with its own viabilities beyond Disney and Universal.

Pat Williams being involved is a great thing, but I think a more modernized and grown up approach is the right play if we want baseball or even another major sport here.

There were only two professional sports teams in the state of Florida when the Magic were awarded an NBA franchise back in 1987.

Now? There are 11 pro sports teams and the 2 of the 11 playing MLB baseball have both failed miserably in terms of fan support.

It's a totally different situation in 2019 and beyond than it was in 1987 and the local media needs to really stop giving this nonsense a platform just because they respect Pat Williams.

I don’t think it’s nonsense to want or pursue a team. I just think the approach is a bit outdated, despite Pat Williams good intention. He needs a strong partner who can bring the proper modern aura to a push like this. Buddy Dyer being in favor of this is probably a good start.

Dreamers doesn't make sense as a nickname of a team because if Orlando officially landed an MLB team than the word (dream) has been fulfilled of bringing an MLB team to Orlando.

Orlando dreamers only makes sense of dreaming of the thought to come to reality of Orlando landing the MLB team if we want the dream to come true whether its in our sleep or we are awake. If or when the dream became true, If Orlando lands the MLB team than the dream is over and the dream has been fulfilled.
