I'm a luka fan and was laughing hard when people were questioning his ability. That said, he's not the best yet. He has had a great start to the season and, though load management has diminished the value of the POs, I'd still like him to win at least one playoff game or at least perform well in a losing effort, before crowning him best in the league. It's disrespectful to those who have shown sustained production.

Yes, he might become that some day. At the moment he still falls well short of Bird, but he also is well younger than Bird was when he came into the league, let alone when he peaked (which was probably only a few years later).

i'm still not sure that he is in absolute the best player in NBA but anyways, so far this season (and it's beginning to become a large sample size of games, especially when you see the all time elite company he joined statistically through the last 10 games), stats, eye test and his team record and graduating improving back up this statement.

Too much is made about his defense mostly because of his relative slowness (unfortunately that's not something he can improve) but honestly, he is not that bad especially when you look at steals and some of the défensive rebounds he takes.
Also Mavs's defense is not that bad, for example the Bucks have a worse defense than the Mavs.

The ridiculous thing is rather to say he is FAR from being the best player in NBA at the moment when through 15 games, both stats (the guy is first in PER and second in efficiency if i'm not mistaken), eye test and his team record quite clearly give a strong argument for him being the best player in NBA so far this season.

Luka is slaughtering all PF/C types in PER and WS/48 despite those stats being skewed towards those positions. He has a fantastic .632 TS% on a monstrous 35.1% usage rate. Second in assist rate, and has the ball in his hand far more than any player in the league according to touches on NBA.com, so the Mavs are living and dying solely on him. What a player.

C'mon, I like the kid and so do many other people here buts let's hold our horses. Often, it's hot takes, media talking heads and the lights that brings hatred and also immense undue pressure on the player. Wiggins.. we know the tale.. I know for sure that even LeBron was affected by all this and had an impact on his game.. He would've had accomplished even more if not.. The lack of a father figure and poverty/ eco system also played a role. Luka is lucky that he has everything good for him from that side..

It was turning into that until he got injured. Its like folks were infuriated that the kid just may translate his dominance into the nba (after his ridiculous stretch of 70%+ FG games). December 15 can't come soon enough.
