Re: Trade Ideas Thread, 2019-20
I know I have some extreme trade ideas, like moving Gordon Hayward for Mo Bamba’s 13 year old brother, but some of you are at the opposite extreme - maybe we can move Langford for Taj Gibson?

Poirier + ojeleye x random player, then sign a perimeter player in the buyout market.
Or try to dump Poirier with a 2nd then sign a player in the buyout market.
That Poirier signing is really terrible.
I guess I must not be seeing how "terrible" Poirier is. But why should I? Given the sparse minutes we have seen him, I hardly have the evidence to judge him. What do you see that I am missing?
He is bad, but I said that because of his second year, that is the problem, that is why likely we will have to give a 2nd, ojeleye, green or other incentive to move him.
I'm not understanding. Poirier is in his first year with us. Something to do with his contract?

Had a couple of minutes to float around the board and checked out this thread. One thing to keep in mind with Thomas Bryant: He can't be traded until 1/15. Not exactly a deal-breaker, but hadn't seen it mentioned in any of the posts.

yes, his second year of contract, that second year has guaranteed salary.

You don't see him that much, cause he's that terrible.
If he played any good, you'd see him more.
And, he's not a Spring Chicken; he's 26.
At 7'0", if he was any good, he'd be out there.
I say, we trade Poirier, Ojeleye and Wanamaker for a usable big.

I still reserve judgement about Poirier, as I haven't seen enough of him. What I have seen does not tip the scale in either direction. I wonder how his lack of playing time sits with Poirier. From what I read, he was not interested in coming over if it was to sit on the end of the bench. One must presume that he was told minutes would be available, given that we had something of a hole at the center position. Did we not give him assurances of minutes? If we did, he can't be happy. He was getting 25 minutes/game in the Euroleague, 12 pts/8 rebounds/game. Anyway, neither here nor there, I guess. As you say, if Brad thought he deserved more minutes, I guess he'd be playing more. As for trading Wanamaker, not likely to happen. His worth to other teams is not likely to pull in a "usable" big, at least one that would be worth more to us than what Wanamaker gives us. I think Brad really likes him, and I'm glad as I really like him too. People are waking up to the fact that Wanamaker is a heady, steady player, who helps to stabilize our second unit. His minutes and stats pretty much support that.

Question:
Can we trade Kanter, Poirier and Filler X for a player making ~13.5M using the +/- 5M rule, and then subsequently flip that player for a guy like Tristan Thompson, using the +/- 5M rule again? I believe were more than 10M away from the tax so it should be possible but was curious regarding its legality overall.

You couldnt in a three way deal.
So it would have to be 2 separate deals, but there is a 90? Day period before you can trade away a traded for player

60 day period to be combined with other salaries, but I believe you can flip the player straight up for another player before that.

I like it for Dedmon or B-Jelly. Not sure why the Kings would do it sadly though. Would have to assume that they aren’t making any moves until at least Bagley is back

My guess is that it’s fine as long as they’re entirely separate trades each time, so that there’s no appearance of attempting to circumvent the CBA.. like, if we traded fillers for Jordan Clarkson, then Clarkson to Minnesota for Dieng, then Dieng to Cleveland for Tristan Thompson, I think even that would be ok, as long as we didn’t sweeten the first trade to indirectly pay for the third.

And yeah, you can flip a player individually. This is like whatever pet project zoya had over the summer to manufacture extra cap space - I’d love to see it happen, but it’s unlikely..

In theory, yes. But the NBA could deny it as it could be seen as "stacking" salaries. They have denied similar transactions in the past.

An anonymous GM calls Danny Ainge and asks if he would trade Jason Tatum.
If you’re Danny, what player in the league (realistically) would you be willing to give up Tatum for?

I would add KAT to that as well. Putting salaries aside and 1 for 1.

Straight up? Nothing realistic. For example, the Mavs aren't going to offer Luka Doncic.
