NBA In Serious Talks With NBPA, Broadcast Partners On Dramatic Changes To League Schedule

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Nov 23, 2019 4:46 pm

The NBA is engaged in serious discussions with the National Basketball Players Association and broadcast partners on sweeping and dramatic changes to the league calendar.

Potential scenarios include a reseeding of the four conference finalists, a 30-team in-season tournament and a postseason play-in.

These scenarios would include shortening the regular season to no less than 78 games.

The discussions are progressing with the hopes of bringing a vote to the April meeting of the board of governors and incorporating them for the 21-22 season.

The league is working to make sure the loss of revenue for teams and players with a shortened regular season would be break even or better initially, with significant financial windfalls in the long term.

BS. Leave it as is. Just extend the dates of the season so that there are no back to backs. Or just get better schedule makers cause there are still back to backs and random 4 days in between games.

I still don't like that MLB has interleague play. History matters.

If my team is a playoff team, why would I want to risk injury to any player in a tournament?

Its funny, we have the narrative that modern players are supposed to be so much more skilled, more athletic and overall better than ever in history.

Yet at the same, players are now doing "load management" and complaining about back to backs and now we need dramatic schedule changes even though they are "better"? Ridiculous.

Fans of Eastern Conference teams are gonna be opposed to this because it takes away the advantage of playing in a bad conference.

Fans of the Western Conference teams are gonna be in favor of it because it makes the league more competitive and balanced.

None of these changes will ever get the necessary votes to pass, why would the east teams approve this only to have their potential revenue cut by not advancing in the playoffs due to reseeding

Not saying I disagree with you.

But pragmatically, wouldn’t you say the players/ teams are forcing the leagues hand to change something due to “load management”? Clearly dramatically shortening the regular season is not an option. So I do believe that something must be done or fans will lose interest. I know I have lost a lot of interest in actually watching the regular season games, even though my Lakers are rolling.

I think something must be done to make the regular season relevant to the players/GMs/teams so they play hard enough to make it interesting to the fans

There was never a problem with the schedule for it to change dramatically. The salaries is the dramatic problem. Make the contracts non guaranteed, ala NFL, and watch these overpaid divas earn their keep for a change. I bet the game will be more exciting when every year is a contact year

Also the fighting is WAY over penalized. Let em play. Did the fans jump off bridges when Kobe got 2-pieced? No they probably liked it. I'm not saying they should encourage fighting but ffs don't condemn it to hell either, this is a contact sport
