Genuine question, how many guards in the league right now are better defenders than Frank? Putting my homerism aside I don’t know of many

Marcus Smart
Pat Bev
Jrue
Dejounte Murray
Vic Oladipo (When healthy)
MAYBE Lonzo
So I have Frank around 5-10 in terms of defensive guards in the NBA.

god shammgod wrote:The Knicks could’ve wound up with Donovan Mitchell, one of the best young guards in the NBA, if they were willing to listen to Rick Pitino.
According to Rick Pitino.
“I tried to get the Knicks to take him, and nah [they said] they can’t take him at that number,” Pitino, Mitchell’s coach at Louisville, said on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
That number was the eighth overall pick in the 2017 draft, during which the Knicks took Frank Ntilikina in the last move made by then-president Phil Jackson before he was let go. Five picks later, the Jazz selected Mitchell, the Elmsford, N.Y. native who has blossomed into a star, being named to the NBA’s All-Rookie first team and the winner of the 2018 Slam Dunk Contest. This year, Mitchell has gotten even better, averaging 24.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
“Donovan I knew would be a star in the league,” Pitino said. “I always felt he could play the one. Can he run a pick-and-roll? Without question. Can he get other people shots? Without question. So, I always knew he could play two positions. He’s just a unique personality.”

i don't post this to make the knicks look bad, this is the reality of the draft. nobody ever really picks someone who is mocked much later. it's very rare. because if you f*ck up it looks a lot worse. like i said in another thread, if the jazz had 8 they don't take donovan.
He's 6'1" that's why the passed I'm sure.

I think Westbrook was onto something and Lonzo is trash imo. So I really think Ntilikina is among the top defenders in the game. In general you can't leave out Klay from that group but I understand why you decided to here.

Randle will be gone at the trade deadline. Book it.
Frank, RJ and Robinson will be running the show.
Maybe it's because of your username, but I detect an overuse of the word "will" here. It's obviously "should but won't".

Frank and Smart are in a class of their own defensively this season. They’re defending all 5 positions on their respective teams. Frank is playing god damn free safety out there.

Yeah, I'd LIKE for Randle to be gone but Will here seems to want to will it into existence. No one wants to take on this year and next year of this clowns contract.
Unless the Knicks attach a pick, which is a waste if they are looking at FA 2 years from now, which pretty obviously they are.
I was for the Randle FA signing, but I was wrong. I placed too much emphasis on what he does right and not enough on what he does wrong. Fizdale is at best a "neutral" coach who neither adds value or takes any away (this is a pretty kind assessment) but what he isn't is a coach who reigns guys in or increases their ability to play with discipline.
So Fizdale might be a good coach for guys who are HOF'ers who don't need anything from the coach, but not so good for players like THJr or Randle who do best with some structure and accountability.

Beverley does get a lot of hype and his flopping has been getting exposed lately. I think Smart is better defender than him.

Unfortunately with knicks being so bad it is going to get overlooked. Good defenders on bad teams easily get overlooked.

I'm taking the LaVar Ball approach and trying to speak the Knicks trading away all the useless parts into existence. Still sticking with Fiz as the Head Coach though. See what he can actually produce with Frank, DSJ, MitchRob, KKnox, RBJ playing major roles.

Re: Frank Thread 3: FIBA Frank Aftermath
I only see Jrue and Smart being better right now honestly. The amount of work Frank has to do to cover for this team’s defensive woes is something special. I would like to see him get some votes for all-defense but that’s almost impossible with the record the Knicks are going to have.

When Frank comes through with the mindset of imma get mines on the offensive end - that will be the true breakthrough.
The defensive instincts and effort will always be there. Or maybe acquire Nic Batum for some dead weight on the current Knicks squad.

Re: Frank Thread 3: FIBA Frank Aftermath
I’d love to see Frank paired with a sharp shooting veteran SG (a-la JJ Redick) while Barret develops at the 3 and Knox grows into a stretch 4 off the bench.
I’m just a RealGM, not a *REAL* GM, but this much seems painfully obvious.

Bring in Frank's mans, Nic Batum. OG French vet for Frank who can help get the best out of him.
