I mentioned a couple of days ago that Kemba was playing hurt and it was obvious to me that it was hurting his overall game and it wasn’t any type of slump.

Now if he has a neck sprain on a neck that I feel wasn’t fully a 100%, the Celtics need to wise up and give him extra time off. If for instance the medical staff thinks Kemba needs about 10 days off, the Celtics should add another week to that.

Kemba doesn’t like missing games, so it would be hard to keep him out, but it’s best for Kemba and for the team in the long run.

This is now 2 neck injuries for Kemba in the last 2 weeks and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Smart and Wannaker can run the point for now and we could also bring up Waters.

Really dont see the need to tack time onto what our doctors say. Se literally pay them to keep the guys healthy and set return timetables. The fact that they listed him as doubtful tomorrow means he probably misses a few games max. No need to overthink it

PS Throughout my career, one of the things I emphasize to every new group of medical students or Internal Medicine Residents or Endocrinology Fellows is ‘normal is not always normal or appropriate’. ‘Normal is often relative’. For example, just because a laboratory test value falls ‘within the normal range’ does not mean that it is appropriate. Example: a patient with hypercalcemia whose serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) level is in the mid to high normal range more than likely has primary hyperparathyroidism - as much as a patient with hypercalcemia whose PTH level is clearly elevated.

Weird, I tell random people that same anecdote all the time.

Just go easy on it at the Thanksgiving table. NOT the time I’ve learned!

OK. OK. LOL.

My example was way too specialized & esoteric for a lay audience. Sorry.

All I was trying to say (as an example of ‘relativity’ in the practice of medicine) is that often times a test value within the so called ‘normal range’ is not appropriate when considered in tandem with a RELATED & separate abnormal test result. If your physician is prime time with a proper depth of understanding, he or she knows this. Unfortunately, many docs are inadequate in this respect.

In other news, my instinct was luckily correct. Kemba will probably ONLY miss all 4 games this week. We should be able to wax the Kings, the Nets twice & the Knicks with the fabulous Wana-wonder at the point. Then Kemba will bounce back next week with a healed neck & shooting hand for the upstart Heat & the Nuggets.

Thank goodness he dodged a huge bullet. This could have been season-, career-, movement- or even life-ending.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Awesome.

Gordon has been down ~2 weeks since the day of surgery.

So maybe he plays again 2 VS 3 VS hopefully no more than 4 weeks from tomorrow, Monday 11/25 - meaning 12/9 (missing 6 more games); 12/16 (missing 9 more games); or 12/23 (missing 12 more games).

Let’s hope for Mon 12/9 Cavs at home or Wed 12/11 Pacers away or *Sixers at home 12/12!

I will say this, as great as Hayward was playing on offense. I was thinking we needed to find a way to get Smart on the court because of how disruptive on defense he was being and great as the 4th/5th option deferring to others.

And in the past few games with Jaylen Brown and Smart chucking it up. And Kemba having little success on the West Coast trip before his injury it really cemented Hayward neccessity for this team. Just efficient offense and I think soundly our best playmaker out there too.

It's still a long ways from now till he's back. But it'll be wonderful in 2020 to see him back in the lineup and hopefully continuing the success he had in that ~8 game run.

He may be back in 2 or at the latest 3 weeks - IMO.

Very cogent point.

This dude provides the numbers to support what you posted.
Hayward is essential.

Usage up for the other 4 and TS% way down for JB & JT.

No more need to speculate. This is a really good update on Kemba by the team physician:

So Kemba basically passed all the tests one goes through with the type of injury/hit he sustained including the concussion protocol (as a precautionary measure even though he was experiencing no symptoms as of late). He only has to go through full practice (tomorrow) to complete the protocol.

He caught every pass with right hand only so he’s still a ways away from being cleared for contact.
