This kid doing everything. If you trap him he will find a way to make a smart pass, if you give him space he will make a shot with high percentage. He's type of step back shooting is impossible to stop. He creates for others, he can also defend pretty well (when he decide), he's so smart. The best player in this league and he's only 20 years old. Insane.

Well, have you looked the Mavs games this season?
Luka generally gets double teamed very very often if not triple teamed (was pretty obvious against the Lakers and the Celtics)

I’m pretty sure he can make the correct pass but you have to understand something, the other players have o make shots. Lukas teammates aren’t very good. I’m sorry they are not. I’ve seen most of them play through out their careers. Tim Hardaway shot comes and goes and so does Porzingis.

Not only that Luka rarely guards the best player on the court. In the playoffs teams will be smart to go after him on the defensive end. Right now this young man is just feasting on poor defenses. I give him credit for taking advantage of it but I’m not going to say he’s the next MJ, Lebron , Larry Bird etc.

I predicted an All-Star level rookie season, but I "only" predicted 25/8/8 for his sophomore campaign, and not nearly this efficient production. I think I was predicting 58%TS. Now he is at, what, 64%TS? Ridiculous, even if he regresses somewhat, he'll likely be at least 27/9/9 on 59-60% TS.

People underestimates how much his passing opens things up for him.
He would never score that much with just a good passing.

He sliced up Houston's (weak) defense tonight, I'll give you that. But I have watched all Mavs games for the past 2 season and the simple passes I was referring to led to open dunks, layups, open threes - which are the worst shots you can give an opposing team IMO. I am sure Houston watched the tapes before the game.

I still have a feeling his numbers will go down because what he is doing right now through 16 games is unheard of, but I guess we just have to disagree that opponents don't game plan for him.

First of all i am a big fan of Luka and as a european i always thought it was disrespectful how GM's, the league, the press and the fans viewed him. We knew what he could do at this age already. To me he is way beyond LeBrons abilities at this age - he has actual abundant basketball skills where leBron had raw athleticism and a green light of the league to run through people and take a few extra steps.

That being said, and in the absence of KD, it is my belief that Kawhi is absolutely the best player in this league. Think about it - he was the core of the Spurs, he owned prime Lebron in the finals, he carried a bunch of decent roleplayers to a title without a second, let alone a third all star next to him. The only reason he doesnt get the respect he deserves is that he is not craving for attention like other superstars. The results are undeniably there. Theres no reason to pretend the best player in the NBA has to score big numbers, triple doubles etc. every night. That is a narrative Westbrook initiated, and it carried over to Harden and Giannis, but its not the truth. Most of Kawhi's work is done on defense where it will not show up in the boxscore. But he has shown that he, without any help, makes a team a winner. Name one other guy currently playing who did the same? The last i can come up with is Dirk.

You mean like being top 5 in most major offensive categories and leading the Mavs to fifth place in the west on an at best mediocre roster so far with a struggling co-star? That kind of "more"?

The same reason why no one considers Harden the best player in the league.

The same reason why no one considered Westbrook the best player in the league even after averaging 30/10/10.

The same reason why no one considered Kawhi the best player in the league until after the postseason.
