You can only hope he finds some kind of rhythm and shows improvement from the line cause it’s gonna eventually be a huge storyline for how the season plays out.

It's just so weird that a guy can shoot 70%+ for years and then all of a sudden fall off a cliff and be air balling fts on a regular basis, all while being better at shooting 3s.

I am not even convinced he is better at 3s, he is shooting 29% so far, he had 30% 2 years ago

The ft thing would worry me if Giannis wasnt Giannis. This will pass. He will fight his way through.

He shot 1.9 threes per game two years ago. Now he is shooting 4.5 threes per game. It is not up to debate, he is shooting better if he is shooting the basically the same percentage at almost double the volume.

usually increasing the volume means you are getting a few extra more difficult shots, in Giannis's case all his shots are open

Hack-a-Freak is coming if he doesn't crack the code soon.

Not always, shot quality might be the same or even better even if you increase the volume due to other factors (better system, the player understands how to generate more quality looks for himself as he develops etc).

If you want to specifically refer to Giannis, then you can't possibly exclude the burden placed on him by taking more shots from a range that is uncomfortable for him.

The free throw thing looks mostly mental which is causing him to change his release and mechanics. I always said the way he holds the ball chest high basically cuts the momentum fr his legs in half on his release, hence the hitch. His form is fine but too many dribbles and he has to get out of his head. I'm sure he buries a million in practice.

At minimum I think it will be an issue for the entire season. Have to hope he comes back better next year IMO.

I'm not gonna start worrying until we get a full season or full calendar year of this. Yeah, it's a problem, but it's really only been about a 30-game sample even including the playoffs last season. Guys go through ruts like this all the time and he shot 75% from the line as recently as April.

I've always been a fan of the granny. Wilt had the best year of a dismal FT shooting career using it, but he abandoned it the following year because it made him feel "like a sissy" (and immediately reverted to his usual futility). Rick Barry led the league in FT% with it. Master it and you're set for life.

And BTW, the reason Wilt sucked at FTs is the same reason Giannis does: giant hands.

Giannis FTs were looking great in the International Friendlies and the World Cup with Greece. Something bad happened when he came back to Milwaukee and made the changes they were talking about.

It's totally mental. He tightens up and his mechanics break down. Try this: On a side camera angle shot of his ft, cover up your vision of the basket and just focus on his shooting form. You will be very accurate predicting a make/miss just based upon the fluidity/mechanics of the shot.

An 8/15 vs a 12/15 night will cost the Bucks a playoff game. He just needs to work through it. I'm also a proponent of just getting to the line and shooting it, and stop holding it chest high squeezing the air out of it prior to shooting. I wonder what the record is for air balled FTs is in a season. Giannis might already have it.

Unfortunately he died in 2017 but he did write a book

is best known for holding the Guinness world record for most consecutive free throws made, having shot 2,750 of them in a row in a span of 12 hours over the course of one day in 1993 at the age of 71.

He's already getting wrapped up earlier than he had in the past. Honestly, though, I wouldn't mind it. It would probably make the fever break sooner.

Giannis is giving back over a point and a half a game just based on his decline in FT%. His other improvements are overwhelming that difference, but if he can put it back together, we'll be that much better.

Sure, he can bend his legs more and put more arc on his shot, but ultimately, it will come down to how much he wants it. We'll be right back after an important message from Life Lock.
