People want to see both Luka and the team do it for a longer stretch. Dallas has had the 2nd easiest schedule in the league thus far and just 10 days ago they were only 6-5.The 5 game winning streak changes it from a 45 win pace to a 56 win pace. Give it another 16 games. If they are 22-10 or better and Luka is still playing like this, more people will be convinced. It also depends on what happens with other teams (Lakers are on a 72 win pace right now, but 3rd easiest schedule).

Easy schedule perhaps but they've already played Houston, LA, Denver and Celtics.
They won one in Denver and another yesterday in Houston, lost one in Boston which was close until Kemba got totally on fire and lost one at home against the current best team in league, a game they should have definitely won had it not been for referees missing DH's foul on Danny Green's tying game 3pointer.

So they've looked definitely more than ok against top teams so far

I’m just Skeptical. Mvp usually goes to a top seed and I don’t see the mavs having a record that close to the bucks and I don’t think lukas play is gonna be that much better than giannis’, if at all.

Westbrook was the MVP in 2016-2017. OKC was a 47 win 6th seed in the west. A recent precedent has been set to where Doncic winning the MVP this season is a realistic outcome.

it's not really a precedent when it's an outlier. After that, the next two MVPs went to the guys with the best record in the entire league. The exception doesn't make the rule, Luka isn't winning MVP

Without trying to dilute the main board further with more Luka threads there is something I've been wondering semi-related to the MVP race. We have the big 4 right now and I guess Towns or AD would be the fifth. Let's say Giannis wins MVP, Harden is 2nd, Luka is 3rd, LeBron is 4th and AD or Towns is 5th. Is it possible for all of them to be 1st Team All NBA? Does Luka count as a guard or forward? Do AD/Towns get screwed?

He can, depends on a few factors, including Luka/Dallas sustaining what they're doing.

The MVP usually goes to a player on a top seed, because the player performing the best is usually there. The vote went elsewhere often when people though it wasn’t the case. No need to be a top seed. Basketref has Doncic #1 on its tracker and the model is based on previous winners.

You are wrong to think that Luka would be an exception.

It’s an example where a 6th seed in a conference had a player win a MVP. The Mavs are currently on pace to be a 56 win team. If they maintain their current trajectory and Doncic maintains his current production, he is definitely worthy of MVP considerations.

If Luka maintains his current production and Mavs win more than 55 wins, he is definitely the MVP unless either Bucks or Lakers have an historic RS record (more than 70 wins so).
Again, we have to remember that most people predicted before the season that Mavs would struggle to make the POs, let alone have one of the best records in the league.

Okay, that's nice, it's an 82 game season. You don't need to be a psychic to know that isn't going to be the case of the course of 82 games. Like I said before luka is a cute story rn but he won't be in the MVP convo two months from now, their net rating is insanely inflated rn due to the wins over the cavs and golden state, it will normalise eventually.

Do you also know which players team is 4th on offence, 3rd on defensive and 2nd in net rating? The Bucks and unlike the Dallas Mavs, that level of play is sustainable for them because they've already proved it last year, that's why I have Giannis as my MVP pick, just don't see anyone stopping him from going b2b.

derailing the talk of the top 2, but it's funny how Jokic has crept into number 9, Denver has the 3rd best record in the league, and the last anyone was speaking about them was to say Jokic is fat and Denver aren't sneaking up on teams anymore.

Seems that wasn't true and Jokic is playing himself back among the best players in the league already.

Jokic isn’t playing that well.

Denver has the #6 defense and #15 offense.

Despite what Nuggets fans says about his defense, Denver’s defensive success isn’t because of Jokic.

50 wins and top 5-6 will be enough, or even less wins.

The guy is putting 30-10-10 on 33 PER in sophomore year.

Like the other poster said that was an outlier. The media were all over his triple double. The novelty for that is gone now. Besides that pretty much every mvp in the last 20 odd years has gone to a top 2 seed.

Of course he’ll be worthy and get consideration I just don’t think he’ll end up winning.

The vote did not “often” go elsewhere. It’s literally always a top 2 seed besides Westbrook.
