I was thinking this as well. Skal is starting to look like a pretty good acquisition. It is worth it for Blazers to retain their "restricted" status on him and sign him next summer.

Wait till the end of the season. Too easy to call him the best signing in 20 years

Fair. But on name value alone, Melo has to be the biggest signing in 20 years right? FA's don't come here. I hope Melo's renaissance inspires more stars to consider portland.

I don’t believe in name power making someone a good or bad signing. Roy Hibbert and enes kanter were seemingly big names when we offered them max money but imagine if that had succeeded...

Now melo for the min is clearly far less of a risk than those signings but Who knows if Melo continues to make us better all season long. I’d like for him to continue what he’s doing but will “old melo” reappear? Who knows at this point, might not even matter the way we have been playing anyhow but hopefully we take advantage of some home

I doubt the kings or the blazers view(ed) skal as a long term piece and I don’t think he’s the difference between the playoffs and the lotto but he looks like a serviceable player without a doubt, but I highly doubt he turns into anything more than a 12/8 player unless he’s on a very bad team.

The Kings passed on Damian Lillard for Thomas Robinson.

The Kings aren't the brightest organization, but I also don't want to say anything bad about them. Skal HAS been solid, but the Kings also gave us the path to getting Mr. Zach Collins. I'm still very grateful to them, so in the spirit of Thanksgiving... Thank You SAC-town!

Uhm, there's an ocean of difference between Melo and Enes and Hibbert, come on. Melo is a 10x all star... I doubt even Lillard makes 10 all star teams, and name value absolutely affects the game regardless of how you view the signing.

Of course there’s a huge difference, melo is a vet min which is zero risk.

How does name recognition alone affect His on the court game? That’s an illogical conclusion

Even with the suspension the other Collins (John) looked good through his rookie deal

Return to Portland Trail Blazers
