Considering moving to MKE. I really know nothing about the city or the area. But I'm thinking about relocating from Eau Claire to MKE and I'd need to find a place to live. What's the walk-friendly, nice apartment, close-ish to the Fiserve neighborhood I should check out?

My girlfriend's friend pronounced chorizo as chor-eye-zo the other day and I didn't know what to do.

Yea, mispronunciations are one of my pet peeves but I really only feel comfortable correcting close friends and family. Otherwise I feel like I might come off as a ****.

What are. You looking for (buy/rent), budget, # of bedrooms, prefer bar scene or lake front?

If money is no issue I recommend 777. Probably would never leave the building if I lived there.

Ton of trendy new loft apartments in every direction around Fiserv, just depends on the amenities you want and price point.

I have a friend who lives in the Moderne. Nice but pricey
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Have the places on commerce come down at all?

My wife and I looked at The North End as the 2nd Phase was being built. Was really nice, with good amenities, but we went with a different part of town. If that's too pricey, there are some older buildings on the other side of the river along Commerce St.

Before you make your decision, I would wait to see if the proposed MPS school referendum makes the ballot this spring and if it passes. If it does, property taxes are going to explode, and rents will definitely go up a significant amount. Whatever they quote you for next year, you will surely be paying a lot more the following year.

https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/education/2019/11/19/mps-offers-first-glimpse-possible-referendum-figures/4235379002/

The proposals would increase the MPS portion of Milwaukee's property taxes from the current $9.58 per $1,000 of assessed value to $15.72 for the lower figure and $22.41 for the higher, said Todd Hajewski, a vice president with Robert W. Baird & Co., which is advising the district on the referendum.

For a home assessed at $300,000, that would push school property tax bills from $2,874 to $4,716 on the low end and $6,723 on the high end, according to Hajewski — increases of 64% and 134% respectively.

Homes assessed at the median sale price of about $150,000, would see their school taxes rise from $1,437 to $2,358 or $3,362, respectively.

Doesn't look like it. I toured Trostel Square back in 2014-ish and they look about the same. $1737 for a 1000 sq ft. 2 bed/2 bath.

I love Milwaukee. Miss being back there often. If it wasn't for my job situation, I'd totally consider moving back. And if I did, the first two neighborhoods I'd consider are Bay View and Riverwest. They used to be really cheap to rent or buy in, but they've gotten more pricey as more people have discovered them. Bay View is a nice community and Riverwest has a lot of culture.

Out of curiosity, have you ever lived in a city that large or bigger? It's not always an easy transition for some folks I know who've tried to make that transition. I grew up there, so I'm aware if its flaws. That isn't to say it wouldn't be great. I'd do it right now if it was possible for me. Just as a friendly note.

I lived in Bay View right off of KK for 3 years. It was great, but that place is blowing up so fast that it's price and crowdedness no longer makes it the "cheap hip place" anymore.

A good spot that will probably blow up next (it's already starting to) is the Walker's Point area along 1st and 2nd streets in between Bay View and the Third Ward.

The allure of River West continues to elude me. It's possible I'm misunderstanding what constitutes River West though. Like Capitol to North, the river to Holton?

We live in Bay View, love it. East side is too overcrowded IMO. Walkers point is ok if your a hipster type...

Yeah , it's kinda cool area, but glad bought in Bay View instead, River West gets more seedy the older I get.

There are now pockets of "night life" everywhere in the Milwaukee metro area. Every neighborhood has numerous bars, restaurants, and breweries/craft beer bars. Uber is pretty cheap if you want to get around.

Some people include everything south of North Ave, all the way to the river.

I've always thought of Commerce St. as more of it's own thing though. Not quite Brewer's Hill, not quite Riverwest, not quite East Side.

See this I get. Walker's Point is cool by itself and very close to a lot of good restaurants, as well as very close to Bayview's tremendous restaurants.

And the lakefront. That industrial harbor area on the west side of the river from the Third Ward has been one of the most underutilized places in the city, but The Mandel Group is going to put in a hotel and apartments.

https://mandelgroup.com/apartments/harbor-yards/

As soon as those go up, everything east of 1st street is going to start to explode.

If I was going to buy a house both as a spot to get in cheap in a booming area, and as an investment, I would be looking in the Clock Tower area near Braise. Once the Walker's Point/Harbor lakefront gets built up, it's going to start pushing development to the west right into that area.

Something like this:
$150k for a 1800ft 6 bed 2 bath 1 block from Allen Bradley
