Lindblom is an interesting option for a variety of reasons (not least that his remaining service time is basically the whole of his likely career) but he falls into that category of "if Lindblom, why Anderson?" We don't want to totally crowd out the young guys with 4th starter types.

Fits the price range so makes sense in that regard.

These are better targets (as in both) than trying to land Wheeler... front load the deals and overpay if necessary

Wouldn't surprise me if the Jays end up signing Travis Shaw. He's coming off a terrible season, but 2017-18 was much better and he checks all the boxes of everything they are looking for; can play 1b/3b, lh bat, power/walks, controllable (two years left). If Atkins had interest in Moose, then Shaw fits a lot of the same categories.

Inking someone with the steroid baggage would mean he'd probably come cheap and we know this management likes it's welfare discounts.

They should have signed him already with Drury's money.

I find it telling that while all these dfa candidates are hitting the market, the jays are simultaneously spending 4 million on drury and anthony bass.

Travis shaw? cesar hernandez? tajuan walker?

....these guys woudnt be better uses of this money? :banghead: :nonono:

Zach Wheeler to Phillies for 5/$100m.

That's Passan's number

Rosenthal says the deal is 5/$118m. The difference may be on guaranteed money vs bonus or non-guaranteed money

Jays have interest in everyone until they realize they won't take a discount to come play for Toronto.

Aren't coming here - Should we add Keuchel, Bumgarner and Ryu as well?

Probably. Option b is the better way to upgrade, trades or option c , from within.

Right now, the Jays opening day payroll is estimated at $63.9 million. That include's the Tulo buyout, the probable arb awards for Shoemaker, Giles and Drury, the assignment bonus for Anderson and 16 pre-arb salaries. That's 23 players for 26 roster spaces. Taking it to the 40-man roster, the figure rises to $83.9 million. The opening day 2019 payroll for 25 players was $114 million.

phils owner is in super win-now mode so not surprised they'd overpay for wheeler.

i expect us to get pineda at this point and probably another starter

Joke of an off-season shaping up here ..

$69.3M committed and don't wanna spend on top Free agents while we got Vlad, Bo, Biggio, Gurriel Jr and Pearson ( eventually) making peanuts.

We are going to look back at this situation and think man we really should have tried to fast forward the rebuild with signing players that fit the core moving forward while we had all our great young players making basically nothing ..

Signing Pineda, Miley, Roark or Lindholm types would be extremely disappointing after all this talk about Toronto looking to add in a major way in free agency.

Accelerating the rebuild could make us fall short of a playoff push where you're an above average team but chances of winning a championship are not very good. i'd be more comfortable seeing a 2nd wave of players come through the system, we won't have a Vlad, Bichette and Biggio again but guys like Groshans or maybe the chance of an average pitcher becoming above average then you suddenly need one less pitcher from elsehwhere. We'll have players like Bichette until 2025.
