he's very likely to have an uptick in his production, the numbers are all there.

They don't want to lose upcoming picks which will only hinder our farm system. Can't argue with that, they have to be picky in who they offer a contract over 6 years to.
I don't believe this. The MLB is not like the NBA or NFL where draft picks are mostly the end all be all. Draft picks in NBA and NFL is where you build teams, but the MLB there is other ways. Many players picked in the 1st round don't even make it to the big leagues in MLB. And we still have international signings or minor league trading etc.. A proven ACE pitcher with dominance in the playoffs, they need to 100% go after. Aces are not on the market every year and true aces are hard to come by. This is a once every couple of years thing.

The last thing the Yankees want is for the Astros to get any more draft picks much less theirs, if that's how the MLB free agency works when you sign a marquee player from their former team.
The landscape of draft picks in baseball has changed since the Astros tanked hard enough to draft themselves a team they've beat us with the past 2 out of the last 3 seasons in the post-season.

So much skepticism with the guy when he was on the Pirates. Now this.

I was on the "don't trade Andujar and Frazier" two years ago too.

An Ace starter is the missing piece IMO and we've lacked that for years. That's ALWAYS been our downfall if you ask me. We've always had great offenses and solid to good bullpen but we can count on one hand how many times we've had a legit "ACE" type pitcher.

We have a deceiving offense that suck in the playoffs. We scored 2.6 runs in the 3 losses to boston last year. In 2017, we scored one run or less in FOUR games against the astros. On the other hand in 2019 playoffs, we held the two best offensive teams (twins and astros) to 2.5 run over 9 games. I'm not saying the pitching doesnt need to improve, but the lineup struggled much more. If you replace stanton with someone like Altuve or JD Martinez, I say we would have won three straight world series.

Draft picks are at least 2 years down the line if they get through the minors, no matter how good they are at the moment. The team is trying to contend now. Draft pick compensation should not be the reason why Hal/Cashman don't wanna offer long term contracts to pitchers.

didn't the yankees give up a draft pick to the angels for mark teixera, that ended up being mike trout ?

People say we would've won if the bats didn't go cold.
We would've won if we didn't tax our bullpen in the post-season. We overexposed our pen to the Astros hitters and they adjusted.
Had we have at least 2 SP that go could 7 innings we would've been money.
