well, i think that what a lot of people were fearing will come to pass based on where things are now: trubisky will remain the bears' starter next year. and frankly, it's probably the best bet. career QBR of semi-reasonable contenders for the job:

62.1 rivers (has never played for a northern team, having a terrible season, turns 38 on monday, still commutes to san diego)
57.2 winston (never played for a non-florida team)
55.5 eli (barely played this season, turns 39 in a month)
55.0 cam (coming off injury, never played for northern team, already less mobile than he used to be, hasn't had good season since 2015)
53.0 bridgewater (best season in minnesota)
53.0 mariota (coming off demotion)
51.8 dalton
50.1 keenum (best season in minnesota)
49.5 trubisky
49.2 tannehill (never played for northern team)

bridgewater would be the best replacement option IMO, but the additional cost relative to the upgrade probably isn't worth it. and who knows, trubisky might have a good year

Mitch was throwing some darts today. More than that, he's been decisive and making good reads. Hope he's turning the corner. We're gonna need a whole team effort @Lambeau.

Have a feeling the Bears will finish with 3 more wins than the team they beat tonight and nonetheless miss the postseason while said team hosts a playoff matchup. Gotta love the NFL!

I still think they're going to bring in someone to compete for the starting job. It would absolutely be a mistake not to.

I still think they're going to bring in someone to compete for the starting job. It would absolutely be a mistake not to.

Of course it all depends on how the last 3 games go- if Mitch looks like he did v. DAL, then we're probably just going with Mitch. If he doesn't look absolutely like THE GUY, however, they HAVE to have a back up plan going into next year. And not just a guy like Chase Daniels. A guy that they would feel comfortable trusting the team to for a playoff run. They can't just cross their fingers and hope that Mitch improves. But he really looked good last night.

It was nice to see the tight ends contribute again.

Getting some big plays from the offense was crucial. The TE screen, the big play by Cordarelle, and Trubisky's TD run- you need those sorts of plays if you are to have long scoring drives.

While the running game showed flashes last night, it was still worrisome that on their last 3 drives, when they were trying to run out the clock, they could only get 1 first down. And a lot of run plays just got stuffed at the line for little or no gain. Granted, the Cowboys were expecting runs, maybe they needed to be more creative in the plays they called, but still, the O line could not create any holes for the runners. And it almost cost them. Of course, there was a huge drop by Miller in there, too.

Agreed. I'm sure some handicapper has figured out what the advantage of 3 extra days is vs the team you're playing. I'd guess it's probably worth 1-2 points when handicapping.

those Charger and Raiders L's really hurt now. esp that Charger game and those few yards and missed kick...

Mitch wins 2 of these 3 next games, they will give him that huge extension.
They might give it to him next week if they clobber GB.

i dont know but it felt like trubisky's footwork is getting so much better. he is actually stepping into his throws now.

maybe just maybe he is getting used to the pace.

maybe...

gotta give him credit for bouncing back from adversity.

Who cares? Nagy has rebounded nicely from the losing streak. He's calling games much better and has more balance in the offensive attack. Trubisky seems like a load is off his shoulders and its been showing. Credit to Nagy for making solid adjustments.

For them to win the next 3 games though, the defense has to get to the next level. They still barely generate sacks and turnovers. Hopefully Hicks' pressure helps with that.

Finally looked like Mitch wasn’t overthinking. He should have been running all season. We’d be 10-3 if he had IMO. Him running opens everything up.

Nagy called by far his best game as Bears HC.

Agreed. That’s the one improvement that I notice about last night game. His footwork was nimble and sharp. He was decision. He commanded the huddle and got them into their stands with 15-20 secs on the clock. His balls were thrown with confidence and power. He actually looked like Bree last night.

Let’s hope that he continues his production against the Packers next week. If we beat the Packers next week, we are making the playoff.

Agreed. I'm sure it's tough to do and increases injury risk some. Though the difficulty was equally shared with both teams. The benefit for the Bears next week applies only to them and not their opponent.

Bears playoff odds went from 3% to 5% with the win last night. It would be interesting to see how much a Packers win would boost it, but my guess is probably only to 20-25% unless Minnesota and L.A. both lose two straight as well.
