Because the franchise is trying to sneak into the playoffs by riding vets. If we had the exact same record, but were doing this with Sekou, luke, and wood - the die hard fans would be a bit excited. When it's rose, blake and langston? You know we aren't building anything.

"Bingo?"
Luke is playing a lot of minutes. Wood is playing more all the time. Langston and Andre are playing well this year? Should we be sitting Blake and Andre, and how would that work? Thanks to our ongoing drama with Reggie, Rose must play what is more minutes than was likely anticipated. Complaining about playing vets that you want to trade, but not playing them would undercut their trade value? We haven't even gotten to where trades can be made.

I understand that fans are frustrated, but tanking is only rarely successful. My unpopular opinion is that team leadership is trying to act in the best interest of the team and its players, and that includes grooming an 18 YO prospect carefully. I may be an old "fool," but I'll put my bona fides as a "die hard" Pistons fan up against anyone, having followed the team since the 1970s.

No, you don't sit blake and Dre. You trade them - hopefully at a high point.

And I love D Rose, but you just don't sign a guy like that in the first place if you need to rebuild.

The point is that the enthusiasm level has little to do with the record and a ton to do with direction. It's exciting to watch a young team start to come together and make a playoff push. They are building on that and you expect them to be even better next year. When you make that same push with vets, everyone knows that is the best you are going to get from that group. It's not a step in the process, it's the destination.

For perspective, the pistons didn't exactly tank to get zeke, but his rookie year, we didn't have a single guy on the roster with more than 5 years experience. Obviously it takes luck to draft a hall of famer, be the organization was in a position to build around him. That was a different CBA without true free agency, so the building rules were a bit different, but honestly, we aren't even in a position to get lucky. We would still need to purge all the vets and pivot to building around a young guy.

Mano brought up the Miami Heat...

Funny how different their path has been compared to our own despite the fact Wade got old quick, Bosh retired and Lebron left.

Strong ownership & FO leadership, quality coach who isn't on the hot seat every losing streak...good scouting, drafting, development etc

Then you go get some players.

Since the demise of the Going to Work crew we've been doing it backwards and the only time you could argue we didn't we got SVG...who Gores put under the pump of a "playoff mandate".

Been a mess under Gores since he bought the franchise. Time to change that for the long term and it all starts in the FO.
