OT: TV and Movies (with spoilers)

Needed something to fall asleep to around midnight last night so I picked Luther since it came with Prime. I think I tried it for ten minutes almost a decade ago but turned it off because I couldn't understand what Stringer was saying.

Ended up watching two episodes and goddamn I'm hooked. Elba is so good but HOLY **** RUTH WILSON.

Oh hell yeah. That show is awesome. I still need to see the most recent series, but Luther is one of my favorite things on TV.

"Coffee doesn't mean friends!" at the 2nd episode made me wish I had started watching about 9 years earlier. God I can't watch to watch the rest.

Only **** thing is I made the mistake of looking at IMDB during the show and I saw how many episodes everyone is in.

I'm not really a big Bond fan but I'll sometimes check them out. I'd be more interested in seeing them if it were Elba or Madden.

Is it a safe assumption that with the Lashana Lynch thing, 007 and the new Bond will be two separate things? Or do we think they'll just pretend Lashana Lynch never happened or something? I've never really paid attention to what they do when they replace Bond; is it like all the different Spider-Mans we've seen in the past decade where it's just a hard reset?

Edit: Also, am I crazy for thinking Daniel Kaluuya would be a good Bond?

To me it sounds like Bond retiring is more of a novel Bond plot thing than an actual pivot for the series. It seems more like they're setting it up to potentially spin her off if the response is good rather than keeping her in line as a replacement for Bond. Lots of things they could do. Would be cool, for instance, to spin her off into her own series, keeping the continuity from Craig's stuff, with him popping in from time to time, but then doing like period pieces, Bond doing some **** in the 80s or whatever, with a younger actor.

Maybe they have already done this! I do not watch the Bonds.

Ah, okay. I was trying to fight the urge to say anything about that haha. All of the seasons are worth the watch IMO regardless of who is or isn't in it though. The first two seasons were the best though.

I'm an hour into The Irishman and the de-aging thing is throwing me off. Deniro looks like an old ass man doing young man sh^t. What was wrong with going The Godfather route and casting a younger guy to play a younger version of the character? And like The Godfather and Brando, the aged up stuff works but I don't think you can really de-age a 75 year old guy.

Yeah the biggest problem is you can't de-age the way he moves. Super distracting.

Deniro's old ass doing the WWE beat up of the grocer took me out of the movie for a good few minutes. How the **** does that survive editing?

I never read the books, but in the movies, I was under the impression "00" was earned during service.

In the first novel, Casino Royale, and the 2006 film adaptation, the 00 concept is introduced and, in Bond's words, means "that you've had to kill a chap in cold blood in the course of some assignment." Bond's 00 number (007) was awarded to him because he twice killed in fulfilling assignments.

Silicon Valley finale was kinda meh. Some funny parts for sure (season needed more Big Head moments) and did a nice job of tying things together, but just felt like a show that kinda lost its soul after the first 3 seasons.

Can't believe they couldn't get TJ Miller for at least a cameo in the last episode. Major disappointment for me.

Last night's Watchmen was really good for those of us who never touched the source material.

It gets better and better. The writing on that show is great. I think my favorite episode is still 6 with Hooded Justice, but man, they are all great in their own ways.

Spectre was incredibly disappointing so I'm hoping they can rebound and end the Daniel Craig saga on a high note. Maybe I'm in the minority but I thought Casino Royale was overrated and this current Bond arc has greatly suffered from trying to be too much like Jason Bourne. Skyfall was by far the best one.

I'm basically on a never ending quest to find new great horror movies. It's a tough tourney these days, but I'm finding some pretty good ones that dance on the line of being comedies. I really enjoyed Little Monsters especially considering I don't always love zombie movies. Lupita Nyong'o is fantastic in it IMO, so you might like it if you liked her performance in Us.

Have you seen one cut of the dead? I'm not sure where you can see it right now besides shudder but it is very good. Know the first 20 minutes or so are rough to get through but just push on. I too am on a constant quest for good horror movies. Maybe I'll post an exhaustive list for fun. Usually I scour Netflix, Hulu, prime and now j have shudder.

Also saw knives out and it was awesome.

I have not, but I'll definitely check it out.

Right before Thanksgiving I watched 'Pilgrim' on Hulu. It was enjoyable at times. Creepy enough, but didn't take itself too seriously for what it was. The ending got weird though, and left me with a very 'meh' feeling about it.

Speaking of 'creepy, but doesn't take itself too seriously', Happy Death Day and the sequel were surprisingly really good and perfect examples of what I mean. I can't help but feel that others here would disagree. But I thought they managed to do their own thing with a pretty worn out idea. During a time when truly great scary films are hard to come by (or at least find), it's nice to have some with something of a 'meta-corny' feel to them.

I think the most fun I’ve had watching movies this year has been The Peanut Butter Falcon and Knives Out.

I just saw Knives Out last Thursday and it was a damn delight. Daniel Craig, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette (one of my personal favorite actresses working today), Chris Evans, Don Johnson (awesome in Watchmen), Ana de Armas (never heard of her, but she was good), and Christopher **** Plummer. Go see it if you haven’t already, it’s fantastic!

The source material at this point would be pretty difficult to consume with a straight face. The show does a really good job of incorporating it in a way that doesn't make it feel dated. I think I read the graphic novel when I was 16? The show is easily the best on television right now. It is absurdly good.
