Having turner replace Theis would actual make the celtics worst imo, boston should see this "center by committee" thing through as long as they are winning games imo. I know haywards got a player option and the future is murky, but the celtics unique ability to throw out 3 all star wings alongside an all league pg could get them deep in the postseason.

I think the underrated move is to get a scoring guard/perimeter piece to play alongside smart off the bench. Wanamaker/green/edwards can definitely be upgraded.

I only got to the first sentence before I hit quote.

Swapping Turner for Theis makes the Celtics worse???
Honestly?

Turner is miles better than Theis, I really like theis but lets get real.

Turner is 4 years younger, and is better at everything than Daniel Theis.

We must be talking about different myles turners, because the one i referred to is practically being chased out of town for how terrible he is playing. I dont really get the love hes getting as a target, he wasn't even good in Fiba. Got his lunch money taken from him by gobert.

Celtics on pace to win 62 games this year and people are trying to trade half the team. Interesting.

He isnt being chased out of town at all?

And Gobert is arguable a top center in the league, I would much rather Gobert, not sure why that counter point.

I think thats their intention— play 3 wings and just try to run to force other teams to play smaller

Yah, I’m firmly on the path of no trades. Someone good will be bought out [Favors maybe?] and we should try to add that guy.

Not really concerned about that. Sabonis has been really good which takes away from a few of thise thibgs for Turner

None of you have answered my question - and Hayward for Turner, like Langford/MEM pick, is an overpay - Turner doesn’t help us win now more than Hayward, and his long-term value is lower than Langford and the MEM pick.

Some of it’s playing with Sabonis - I don’t know Turner’s advanced defensive stats this year - but he’s also a limited player. He’s still young and developing, and the one thing he does he does extremely well - but he doesn’t rebound well at all for his size - you could probably go so far as to call him a bad rebounder. He hasn’t added much of a consistent low post game, but he’s not great at playing without the ball. Like with most players you could argue a different system and role could unlock different parts of his game, but apart from his plus rim protection and floor spacing there’s not much. He’s closer to someone like Valanciunas or Kanter than to Gobert or Embiid, he just happens to have the first two boxes most teams would check in a roleplaying center, so he seems more like a “star” than he is.

Turner is like Al Horford minus the play making. He’s a defensive center with plus shooting. He has meh rebounding, biased downward by his overlapping PT with Sabonis. He's fantastic defensively— was voted third best at C in the NBA last year— and its laughable to compare him to Val or Kanter. He would fit us like a glove and has built in chemistry with our main guys from team USA. He’s not a star, but he’s an elite level role player with an awesome contract.

I thought I was effectively calling him an elite level role-player. He's like Val and Kanter in that Valanciunas is a borderline elite-level scorer and Kanter is an elite level rebounder. Turner is an elite defender and solid perimeter shooter, and that's the roleplayer jackpot, especially for a center.

I'm not willing to give up on G Williams, because he does a lot of other things really well. Hopefully his shot will start going in, but until then, he still adds a lot of value. C Edwards really only does one thing, and when that isn't working, he's pretty useless.
Rather than trading Edwards (I'm not sure if anybody would be willing to give much of anything for him at this point), he should be sent to Maine, and let him find his shot up there. Let Edwards and Waters trade places.

Lets not forget Langford as that scorer off the bench to play with Wannamaker and Smart. He is a really good scorer if he can just stay healthy. A bench of Wannamaker, Smart, Langford, R. Williams and Kanter backing up Kemba, Brown, Tatum, Hayward and
Theis sounds really good.

Then you got Edwards, Green, G. Williams, Semi and Poirier as a third team, just deep. Hard to believe we could have 3 FRP's this off season too !!!

Ainge only needs to make a trade around the edges if a deal presents itself otherwise no need at all.

Celtics on pace for 62 wins and possibly 3 first round picks coming next season. Outlook is very bright

A trade around the edges, and/or some sort of consolidation trade. Trying to add 2-4 more rookies next year is just going to be tough. Core of Kemba/Brown/Hayward/Tatum/Theis/Smart would be basically off limits except in extreme scenarios. But you can move any of the rest in the right deal, imo.

it sounds good what we're on pace to do but does anyone really feel safe going into the playoffs in a few months with Theis as our starting C? lets be real... we absolutely need a bigger body if we really want to contend this year.

i don't really like him but i'd be open to tristan thompson. though we wouldn't necessarily be able to make the salaries match

I believe team will continue as is, but I am of the camp that without an upgrade at center this team will not go far in the playoffs.

Wonder if poirier and pick(s) would be enough to get poeltl from the spurs.

He would be a great center for this current team. Bigger theis with better defensive fundamentals and instincts but less athletic

Why should Celtics need to match opponents? Why don't they just do their own thing and force opponents to match? Celtics have arguably the best 1-4 starting lineup in the NBA with Walker/Brown/Hayward/Tatum.

You guys talk like Thompson, Turner have shown to be some huge factors against big frontcourts when in reality Turner is a softie who gets constantly punked by guys like Embiid, Drummond. Thompson is a better rebounder than Theis but Theis can strech the floor, defend better and isn't gonna brick 50% of his FTs like Thompson. Enes Kanter has better rebounding numbers than Thompson. Better TRB%, ORB%, per36 rebounding. He just doesn't play as much.

I'm actually shocked how good Kanter's numbers look, especially on/off.

The best option might be a Favors buyout.

Return to Boston Celtics
