Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 4
You can see Giannis' impact on the East. Part of it is just playing to the players you have, but the top of the east is absolutely lined up with defensive powerhouse frontcourts. The Celtics are still trying to figure out what to do at C but they've got Hayward, Tatum and Brown who are all big, strong and smart defenders. Meanwhile, the Sixers and Raptors have taken it to another level. The Sixers with Embiid, Horford, Simmons and even Richardson and Thybulle are loaded to try and stop Giannis. Not sure how they score but they're probably the best suited for the task. The Raptors aren't quite as well suited to the job but still have Gasol, Siakam, Anunoby and Ibaka and are probably a bit better offensively. They managed to slow Giannis just enough last season because they could score enough with Kawhi - I'm not so sure they're going to be able to handle that this season but we will see. The east as a whole is terrible but the top eastern conference teams are really very good.

Not like anybody here had him on their radar at the time, but just imagine a core of Wall, Beal and Giannis

You want perimeter defense? The Clippers might have one of the best ever - starting Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Mo Harkless, and Patrick Beverly. I guess they start George at the 2 - which seems unfair.

Btw, the Bucks have gone 7-0 without Middleton and don't seem to miss Brogdon.

I'm about to whine about not getting Christian Wood again, so cover your ears. He's starting to get some playing time (only about 250 minutes, so far) and is making very good use of it for Detroit. Per 36 minutes, he's averaging 22.1 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.9 to's. He's shooting 66.2% from 2 and 48.1% from 3. His PER IS 26.0. Speaking of Detroit PF's not named Keiff or Doumbouya, I wonder how long it'll take for them to trade Blake Griffin. Griffin criticized the team after Wood had a big game in a win over San Antonio - doesn't sound like someone who wants to stay there.

So, the Knicks held Giannis to 29 and 15. Problem for them was he did it in 21:58. The game was such a wipe-out that his brother got a chance to play.

Couldn't agree more. Assuming we had a chance at him, it was a major whiff for a rebuilding team like ours.

Tatum (and certainly Brown) isn't nearly big and long enough to cover Giannis. Horford was the only Celtic last season that could begin to cover him. Now that Horford's on the 6ers, they have a much better chance of defending Giannis than the Celtics do. I think the 6ers and Raptors are the only teams with a chance to contain Giannis.

Haha, never celebrate prematurely, former Wizards Nemanja Bjelica hit the game-winning shot with 1 second on the clock.

We still claim him as a "former Wizard", there are even a couple of threads for him buried on god-knows which page.
*Side-comment* Google used to make it very easy to find these old threads, not any more.

People assumed that losing the uber-efficient Malcolm Brogdon would be a crushing blow, but George Hill has filled in providing the same type of numbers - though in just 21 minutes a game - and like Brogdon provides minutes at either guard. At 33, he has an EFG of .679 - which is more than a hundred points higher than he ever did before. He's making 56.2% of his 2's, a crazy 53.7% of his 3's, and 83.8% of his FT's. It also helps to have 3 other wings who all play defense and can get hot on offense - Donte D, Sterling Brown, and Wesley Matthews.

Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 4
His shooting fell way off this season - I don't know if it's because he's lost a step or what, but it seems like the Jazz were anxious to get rid of him. It's not like Rayjon Tucker - the player who's replacing him - is a great prospect - he was a free agent from the Bucks G League team.
