The NBA owes Richaun Holmes some money

Post#1 » by Dirk » Thu Dec 12, 2019 6:33 pm

Sixers signed him to one of their patented contracts 4 yrs / $5.2M. Through time he had various moments where he'd jump out to you. I remember at one point they were even trotting him out as a stretch big. Got lost over there and fell down the pecking order.

Gets moved to the Suns for cash. Looks good there when he gets his opportunity --- in particular, he shows the intensity and hunger that their #1 pick at times seemed to lack.

Let go. Becomes UFA.

Kings of all teams sign him to what immediately looked like a very cheap contract 2 yrs / $9.7M.

The guy they sign as a starter - Dedmon 3yrs/40 million (26.7M gtd) - has a disastrous start. Team falls to 0-5.

Holmes steps in as a starter and has been averaging heavy minutes as a key part in their revival by bringing an intensity and aggression in his play that is unmatched. Seems to be able to switch on to guards and wings well, defends inside, sets good screens, dives to the basket... for less than 5 million.

I.e, last night, late game

Best FA signing for Kings since... I don't know.

He was my favorite before signing with Kings, but now when he is with us... Oh boy.

And his parents? Good lord, I hope Richaun stays with the Kings for a long time, so I can see his parents reaction in social media after every win.
Celtics fan.
We also face the Kings twice in the near future. I think it's time Yabu pays back some of that free money he's been given his entire career and bounces Fox for a nice 2 week ankle sprain.

Was wondering when the thread about him was coming. The guy has been a revelation. Easily the Kings best player so far, All-NBA level defender, and extremely efficient filling in gaps offensively.

Agreed, I always wondered why he didn't stick with his previous teams and got moved around like he was trash. Seems like a very useful player with no baggage.

I have an issue with any argument about NBA players being owed more money. 97% of them are millionaires or multi millionaires, even most bench warmers.

I thought this was actually going to be about an accounting mistake.

I was shocked when the market on Holmes seemed light. Was hoping he'd end up in a Raptors uniform.

Yeah this guy is on a Will Barton type value contract (prior to his extension last year).

I liked what Holmes brought to the table with the Sixers. His production level right now is better than Nerlens Noel when he turned down $70 million.

If I'm allowed to toot my own horn a bit, this post was from January of this year:

I also saw last nights game. :D

I do think that is a little bit crazy. WCS's ability to rim run is very useful given the Kings pace right now. So, I wouldn't want a player like Holmes flat out replacing him, but if we were able to get a wing who can play for WCS, I think a player like Holmes could fit in pretty well.

Edit: I think WCS would look good on the Hornets and MKG would look good on the Kings. Who cares about the investment in Zeller, let's get it done!

Yeah I've been a Richaun Holmes fan for a while though, I'm pretty high on him. Holmes can rim run like Willie too. Willie is a better passer and shot creator but Holmes is way more active, tough and scrappy on the defensive end.

I've always liked his game. Some will consider this a strange comparison, but he reminds me of Portland era Joel Przybilla. A good rebounding, shot blocking, efficient scoring big that knew his limitations and played to his strengths. As mentioned, PHI tried to make Holmes into a stretch big. The last two seasons, he has not attempted a single 3-pointer and his efficiency has soared. Not a star player, but a GREAT role player. Come playoff time, there will be a lot of teams kicking themselves they didn't sign him when could have gotten him cheap.

Dude is a physical beast. Played really well in the two recent Kings games I watched. Sometimes players just need to find the right situation in order to shine.

Love Holmes. His career arc has been a bit like Harrell's. All indications show he should have been given a bigger role for awhile but for whatever reason nobody seemed to believe the numbers with him.

Good for Holmes. Always loved the energy he brought. Another 2nd round pick Hinkie drafted that is now a solid player in the league. Guess we weren’t just tanking, eh?

Even though so far Richaun, Nerlens & Willie Cauley Stein missed the brinks truck i dont have pity for them , as they have a opportunity to atone for it since none of them are out the league, but a 100+million deal seems now to be out of reach just like it is for Boogie Cousins, but being a useful productive player in the league long term they can make as much if not more than a top tier surgeons or radiologists so they should keep up the good fight and invest wisely.

I vote that we delete this post. It makes me look REAL bad

Glad the Kings were smarter than me, Holmes has been looking great.

Confused as to why Richaun is lumped in with those two guys? He was never even in consideration for a deal like that as in Nerlens' case or publicly said that's what he was looking for as in Willie's case. Completely different situations than those other two.

Wish we kept him over Kaminsky :(

Or kept our pick and didn’t trade for Saric.

I hate that other teams are always reaping the benefits of steals like this guy. Sigh. When will it be us?
