Agree - to a point.Manocad wrote:DetroitPistons wrote:Manocad wrote:23 pts, 15 rebounds but -15 in an 11 point loss.
Yeah, that's a real difference-maker right there.
Come on Manocad, you can give Drummond credit when he deserves it. Obviously in a loss where we lose by a significant margin and are even getting blown out badly at one point you are going to have most players on the losing team with negative +/-. Rose was also fantastic for us and had a -17. Drummond was great last night and without him the game would've been over in the first quarter probably. The real problems were Griffin and Kennard. They both sucked big time last night. Even a mediocre game from each could've been the difference in making up the 11 point deficit we lost by.
Drummond has had a great year for us and his numbers are up across the board. I hope we can resign him to between 25-30 mil/year but I fear he will get maxed with the type of year he is having. He will be a very young 27 to start next season and will still be in his prime 3-4 more years after that, which is plenty of time to complete a rebuild.
Kennard, Doumbouya, Drummond, and even Wood are great young pieces to build with. We have half of our rebuild done already. We just need to hit on another FRP or two. Dream scenario for me is Griffin getting back to form and us getting a good pick out of it, then tank and draft one of the elite guards in this draft. A starting lineup next season of Cole Anthony, Luke Kennard, Sekou Doumbouya, Christian Wood, and Andre Drummond would have me the most excited for this franchise in the past decade.
No. I have no interest in seeing the team spend over $25 mill a year on a “building block” center that can disappear for a half, continue to make stupid plays, pout, and wind up in the negative so often that he’s a net 8/15 player. A $15 mill a year journeyman center with decent defense can give you 10/12.
Drummond isn't suited to the modern game (not a rim protector and can't shoot from any distance) but:
He's 26 & our "homegrown star". Reminds me of the Charlotte/Kemba situation last year.
IF we opt to rebuild through the Draft (trade Blake, Rose, Kieff, Jackson, Galloway for picks and dead money) Dre is that guy Gores can sell to whatever extent.
A roster headlined by Dre featuring a 2020 Lotto PG, Luke, Sekou Wood, Svi, Brown and Bone sucks but we'd have some hope and still get a 2021 Lotto pick.
All the main rotation guys would be fairly cheap for a couple of years - meaning a overpaid Dre isn't as much of a problem.
The hope would be that the 20 & 21 picks are quality, Sekou & Luke develop...giving us a up and coming starting 5.
We're talking 2 or 3 years from now...and Dre still wouldn't be 30!
Or
We continue to put bandaids on bullet wounds, continue to chase the 7th or 8th seed and sign vets at a cheap-ish rate cause we gave Dre the MAX and there's no flexibility with him and Blake on the roster.
