but isn't that why we call them prospects? isn't it all about potential & "hype"?

the best part of calling up Kennedy is having him pitch against the DRays.

Great news. I find it amusing that before this season started it was Hughes who would be getting called up around this time and Chamberlain and Kennedy being promoted to AA. Instead we have Chamberlain and Kennedy in the Bronx and Hughes 3 innings away from a no-hitter. Insane. -Jitpal

That is the whole basis of a PROSPECT. You don't wait until they are in the majors to talk about whether or not they can make an impact on this level. We are supposed to sit here and discuss their ceiling and their potential, that is the whole reason we pay them ridiculous signing bonuses and such. Brackman was signed knowing he needed the surgery, and that can work out. The Orioles draft Bedard knowing he needed TJ Surgery, how is that working?

excellent post, you beat me to it, I grabbed eric bedard on my fantasy team last year and this year, after his TJ surgery he has been a stud, in my fantasy league, he has been the best pitcher hands down.

remember yankees signed Lieber after he had surgery knowing he was going to miss a whole year... That worked out well also...

Wow Mussina replaced? Wonder what'll happen to him now. And could someone tell me about Mussina's contract? How many years left, etc.

Moose has one year left on his contract. He is owed $11.5 mil in 2008.

re-signing Moose wasn't a dumb move though. I think some Yankee fans forget just what we had last offseason.

Wang
Pavano
Pettitte
Igawa

So to resign Mike for 2 years seemed to be a no brainer. It wasn't as if anyone thought he'd fall off like he has.

Yeah, I agree, it wasn't dumb at all. I was in favor of the move. Many people were. Nobody could have forseen him falling off a cliff like this.

Yup, and nobody could have foreseen Joba and Kennedy reaching the majors as a permanant fixture in the rotation before mid-late 2008. And the plan was for Hughes to remain in AAA until September of this year also. The emergence of all these guys has made it easier to want to "get rid of" Moose, but these emergences weren't expected. If these guys didn't come along so strongly, Igawa would still be in the rotation and we'd be replacing Moose with somebody like Chase Wright or Tyler Clippard for good.

Not until the babying or innings limits go away. At this rate we will need Wang, Pettitte, and then 4 or 5 guys to fill our final 3 rotation spots next year.

Hughes probably won't have to be babied next season as long as the Yanks get him work in winter ball or instructs. Also, Kennedy should be more than ready for a workload of 180 innings+. Joba is the only guy that could see limitations, but the Yanks can give him time in AAA in April to limit him then so he can be let loose for the rest of the year. Igawa/Moose can be our 5th guy in that case for the first month or so. Cashman knows what he is doing and he has this all mapped out.

Good news, he really can't be any worse than the Moose. He will at least give us one quality start, and that could be the difference in making the playoffs.

I am definitly watching the game on Saturday. I think Kennedy is going to have a good game mainly because Tampa has never seen him and they are a free swinging team. A control guy like Kennedy should fair well.
