Paul Reed is not a SF, hes a combo big...hes closer to being a center than he is a 3...essentially Drays position

I won't argue, however he can guard every position on the floor, which to me is more important than signifying what you want to call him.
He's in the more of Siakam, and we could only hope to have him progress offensively like Siakam has. I wouldn't hang that around the kids neck though.
I have watched quite a few full games now, and he has a surprisingly good handle for his size. And he's really good at converting on the break and off of cuts. I see the ability to refine how jump shot and he has decent range already.
He's hugely undervalued right now, and is going to be a really good pro as he matures as a player.
I don't see him as a center unless it's a true small ball role, but that's a good thing because he guards the perimeter like a friggen champ out there. So switching won't ever be a problem with him.

being a perimeter player defensively is one thing, another one entirely on offense, he doesn't have the on-ball dribble ability or playmaking to be a 3 in the NBA, like i said much more combo big than a combo forward.
i like Reed and think he can be good, but we already have Dray/Paschall/Loon that can do a lot of what he does already. We need wings -- real wings.

Toppin is a 5. Perhaps a 4 if things break right. But he's definitely not a SF.

But perimeter defense is really where we miss Iguodala, Livingston, KD, etc. We can find offense anywhere and I feel like Reed will provide some good offense as he matures.
To me the hands down most important aspect of what we need is perimeter defense. And Looney is a center now. I don't ever want him playing PF. Draymond is getting older. So Reed is a guy who we can steal in the mid to late first and he would be a defensive corner Stone down the road.
Oh and he's a great rebounder. Especially in space.

I see Toppin as a really smooth 4.

you guys are looking at the wrong players, Toppin and Reed are good but neither of these guys is even close to being a wing really

If we are picking in the top 3 or so, we are looking at BPA, not wing or C or PG or whatever, we select BPA.

Part of being a wing is on defense as well. I want the extra first round pick in a potential Russell deal to grab Reed.
I like Scottie Lewis almost as much as you, and I like Nwora too. So I'm also feeling like a move down with our top pick could be warranted depending on where the pick falls as well to grab one of those guys.
However, if we maintain a top pick, I'm not passing up on Wiseman, and it'd be hard to pass on Edwards. Everyone after that is where I'd consider a trade down.
So get me a mid to late first with DLo so I can grab Reed.
Question Clyde....do you consider Siakam a wing? And if not tell me why we couldn't use that type of player?

BPA is dumb, that's how get talented players and ruin them, by putting them in situations that don't maximize their roles/talent, it's the stupidest idea, you have to take into account fit, not just talent, talent is useless if the fit sucks.
if there aren't players that fit our team if we're picking in the top3, you don't have to make the pick, trade down and pick up extra assets in the process. there is no rule that says u have to take a player. heck, i'd rather take a player ranked 8th that's a great fit over a player that's ranked 3rd and is a terrible fit.

Siakam is not a wing, this year he's played only 3% of possessions at the 3, the rest all at the 4 and 5, he's a combo big. yea he can defend some 3s but that doesn't make him a wing.

BPA all the way.
only 2 reasons to draft BPA:
1. the player is clearly, above and beyond, better than everyone else on the board and/or is generational prospect i.e. Zion or AD.
2. if you're starting from scratch and your team is completely devoid of talent
neither of these conditions fit here.
otherwise, no, you have to account for fit and scheme, otherwise you're probably just throwing the pick away (which is why we always see busts in the top 5-10 even tho 'BPA').

No Way. If you go into a draft needing a center and Kobe Byant and Jeff Fuller are on the board, you take Jeff Fuller. No brainer! (sarc)

Portland were totally correct in selecting Sam Bowie.

If we fall out of the top 5 we should be all over Josh Green. Perfect fit, just don't think he quite has top 5 talent.
Return to Golden State Warriors
